CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: IN MICHAEL'S BED (CONT)
***
With Spyder silent for the moment, we discussed the plan for tomorrow.
"What else did Todd tell you about the event?" Jake asked.
"Only that it will be in conjunction with the Council's ceremony on Saturday," Dad laid out all the documents on the coffee table and the guys huddled around it examining everything.
"Yes, unfortunately, he did not feel inclined to provide assistance in thwarting the plan past the decoding." Michael picked up the last cypher.
"Guess he is not one of your loyal subjects after all," Spyder's smart-alecky voice whispered from behind me so only I could hear.
I turned around. Spyder had figured out a way to wriggle out of the handkerchief and spit out the napkin. I clenched my teeth and glared at him.
Michael said, "Well, we know Jin Wu will be in attendance as part of his responsibilities so we can eliminate any sort of attack that could injure him."
"What about guns? Could someone hide in the wall area and shoot individual people on the council or audience?" I asked.
"Our weapons are not as sophisticated as your weapons are. They would not be able to pinpoint an exact target which means Jin could be in danger himself." Dad stroked the bridge of his nose.
"What if Spyder had brought more accurate weapons from my world?" I asked.
We all turned and looked at Spyder. He peeked up at us from under his hair that had fallen over part of his face. "Oh, so now the lot of you suddenly cares about me when you want something?"
"Spyder, do you know anything about the pending attack?" Michael stood.
"Maybe I do. Maybe I don't. I really cannot be sure."
Michael walked toward Spyder. "It does not bother us if you do not know anything. I just thought you might want to help save yourself. After all, you are on the chopping block as well."
"Chopping block? You are just trying to toy with me to get information."
Michael leaned over him. "You are a two-worlder—just like Kayla and just like me. Mr. Wu wants all of us dead. You included. Not that I could blame him for wanting to expunge an annoying pest like yourself from the face of this Earth."
Spyder gritted his teeth. "They need me. I'm valuable to them."
"Jin Wu's journals have been deciphered." Dad carried one of the documents over to Spyder. "Contained in it was a section where he seemed convinced current two-worlders would be a threat to his ultimate plan. As a result, he planned to eliminate them one-by-one—including you. Of course, you were not to be killed until after you found and eliminated all the others which, as far as we know, is just Kayla and Michael. After then, you would be next."
Spyder turned his head away. "That was most likely written long before I proved so valuable to him."
Dad held it up for Spyder to see. "As you can see, prior to the portion I just mentioned, there is a record of your visit to Earth and queries about what you were doing while on the other world for so long. It also said you were unsuccessful in finding and eliminating any of the targets and he doubted you had the mental capability to carry out the plan."
