CHAPTER FOUR
✦
"YOU AREN'T FUNNY, JACK."
the brunette walking in stride with him threw his head back in laughter, "i'm hilarious, and you know it."
"you really aren't." despite his words a smile started to stretch across corbyn's face and the brunette found himself desperately trying to muffle his laughter.
"look, you're laughing!" jack accused.
"no!" corbyn tried to protest, "i'm not, i'm just smiling because i'm annoyed."
"yeah, alright." jack played along with the older's story.
both brunette's were headed off to their designated hang out location, corbyn's friend group liked to meet in the library some days after all of their classes were complete just to catch up and share stories of random things that went on in their day. some days were spent just doing homework but most of the times at least one of the boys had a crazy story about something that went on during their classes.
"did you hear about what happened in the athletic hallway?" jack piped up suddenly.
corbyn was quick to shush him, pointing a tutting finger in his direction, "save the story for the library sir, we can't ruin our tradition."
"save what for the library?"
corbyn looked over as jonah and zach made their way over to join their small group. the older boy gently pushed zach away from him as the brunette persistently peered over his shoulders at the notes neatly scribbled across his notepad.
part of zach's interest was now captured on jack and the possibility of drama but he was still trying to steal jonah's notes from his grip. "zachary, i swear to God, leave me alone."
"jonah, just let me take a picture." the boy whined.
"i already told you i'd let you copy it down or whatever once we got to the library. i'm using them right now." jonah scoffed, holding his arm out as to block the boy from approaching any closer.
"you're mean." zach ended up pouting.
"they're my notes!" jonah protested.
༄
the boys were now huddled around their library table. the librarian there had been used to them spending the majority of their time there after classes since their freshman year. they always sat at the same table, at the same time, at the same days.
at the beginning, the poor woman tried her best to control the group of somewhat rowdy boys but it was to no use. eventually enough, she grew to care for them and they grew to quiet it down and little and respect her wishes.
their attention was captured by the door nearing the entrance of the building was banged up against the wall, the last member of their friend group throwing an apologetic glance at the librarians' glare as he quickly made his way towards the group's table.
"guys, you'll never guess what."
"what?" zach placed his pencil down from copying jonah's notes, cupping his chin in his hands as he placed his attention on the blonde.
"i finally got a new roommate, and holy shit he is so much better than my last one." eben pulled his chair out, dropping down in the seat as his excitement didn't take long to distribute among the group.
"really?"
"yes, i know no one can be as bad as ethan." the blonde shuddered at the horror his previous dormmate had put him through. from leaving water running, to spreading his mess onto eben's side of the room, to going out of his way to make eben's life a literal hell–the man was a disease to be around. and eben couldn't take a deeper sigh of relief. "but i don't know i just have a good feeling about this one. he actually seems like he gives a shit about people."
"so you mean the same thing you said about all of your previous roomies?" jonah laughed.
"don't ruin this for me, marais."
"so when will we get to meet this amazing roommate of yours." jack laughed.
"soon, i told him i'd introduce him to you guys soon." eben smiled, "if that's okay with you guys."
as nods and sounds of approval were heard around the table, corbyn couldn't help but let his mind wander.
of course it was okay with corbyn, he had no problem meeting his mystery man, he actually enjoyed meeting new people sometimes. he just wishes they'd like him back. he's lost so many friends just because he has DID, just because people were scared of him when they had no right to be. he didn't want to be the reason the group lost a new potential member. he didn't want to ruin a potential good roommate pairing for eben.
"corbs," the brunette heard jonah huff from beside him, the older's hand falling on his shoulder, "i already know what you're thinking and stop. we're all in this together, if someone doesn't want to be cool with you, they don't want to be cool with any of us."
the boy looked up at eben for approval, it didn't matter what jonah said, eben was the one that had to live with him, "any of us, corbs."
"yeah and besides, you're not obliged to tell him anything until you're comfortable. it's your business, whenever you decided he needs to know is whenever you tell him." zach shrugged.
the boys around him let out more sounds of approval, reassuring smiles thrown his way only pulling the boy further out of his slump. the conversation continued on as normal after their talk, jack finally able to gossip about whatever occurred in the athletic hallway now that eben had made an appearance. corbyn didn't linger in his thoughts too much, but one thing he made sure to staple and remember was how grateful he was for these few people graced in to his life and how lucky he was to call them his friends.
