CHAPTER 3

Jane insisted that I take a payed leave from the job until my ankle heals. There was no point in arguing with her because sometimes, she’s just too stubborn. I told her she should cut my pay but Jane, being the ever so kind woman she is, insisted on giving me my salary.

Tyler decided to spend time with me as I couldn’t go out of the house much. But obviously, staying at home watching rom coms with your sister is too boring for a brother. Which would explain us arguing.

“Oh my God! I’m not a baby, Ty! I can take care of myself! Go out with your friends please,” I told him for the hundredth time.

“What kind of older brother would I be if I left my baby sister at home all alone, who is injured, might I remind you. You could loose your footing and worsen the ankle’s condition,” he argued. I threw him a baffled look.

“I know I’m clumsy, but I’m not that clumsy, Ty,” I said while glaring at him.

“I beg to differ,” Tyler muttered under his breath but I still heard it.

“Excuse me?”

“Uh, you’re the bestest sister in the whole wide world,” he lied, grinning cheekily.

“Good and bestest is not a word, Ty,” I said to him.

Mom entered the living room where Tyler and I were sprawled out on a couch with my leg elevated and my head resting on Tyler’s shoulder. We were watching Step Up now. Mom looked at us and sighed.

“Tyler, why don’t you call your friends over to the house? That way you can still be here with Charlotte and spend some time with your friends,” Mom suggested.

“Mom, you’re brilliant,” Tyler exclaimed.

“I know,” Mom said, winking at the two of us.

Tyler called up a few of his close friends that went to high school with him. They agreed to come over to hang out. I haven’t seen most of my brother’s friends in ages. Tyler’s friends started piling into the house. My mother baked some brownies and she made sure the fridge was stocked. God knows we’re going to need as much food as we can get with all these boys in the house.

The guys, Sam, Andy, Chase, and Matt, entered the living room after greeting my mom. My brother stood up and did that weird guy handshake with all of them. Sam, as usual, ruffled my hair causing me to whine as the others laughed at me. I pout and I hear a chuckle. I glance at Chase, realizing it was him who had chuckled. I felt my cheeks go warm as our eyes made contact causing me to look away quickly.

Chase Michaels. About six feet tall, maybe even taller, with golden brown eyes that makes me think of honey and a dazzling smile that had me captivated from the moment I laid my eyes on him when I was six and he was eleven.
