CHAPTER 5

My alarm woke me up this time. Tyler had gone out with the guys and they were all crashing at Andy's place. Mom and dad had gone out for work and I was left all alone. At least I got my beauty sleep without Tyler forcing me to get up because he was bored. I swear sometimes it feels like I'm the older sibling and Tyler is five. I saw the time and the clock read 12.36 p.m. Wow, I must have been tired.

I got out of bed and wrapped my cast in plastic so I could shower. It's been a week and a half since I had injured my leg and a week since I last saw the infuriating Cameron Price who thinks he's some big shot. Well, screw him and his arrogance.

Jane was still hesitant about letting me work at the cafe with the cast on. I thought of driving down to the cafe and bugging her until she lets me resume my shift. I shower and get dressed, taking my own sweet time. I pour some cereal and eat my breakfast while watching some Tom and Jerry on TV. Don't judge. Tom and Jerry are like the best cartoon out there. And if you're on Tom's side, you can't be my friend anymore. Just kidding. Or am I?

After I'm done cleaning up, I grabbed my bag and keys and hobbled my way to my car. I was getting used to walking with the crutches, thankfully. I reached the cafe within fifteen minutes. I parked the car and made my way into the cafe.

The cafe was bustling with customers who were grabbing a quick bite before they have to head back to the office after lunch break. Jane was taking orders while Parker served the customers. However, they were definitely understaffed. I go to the coffee station and begin making coffee and adding some designs on it which was what Coffee & Stuff were famous for. After the crowd subsides, Jane makes her way to me confused.

"I thought I told you to come back after you're okay," she says, an eyebrow raised at me.

"I am okay," I reply, stubborn. Jane looked at my cast and the way I balanced myself with my crutches.

"Oh really? You're okay?," she questions. I grin sheepishly at her.

"I'm letting you off the hook for today, Charlotte. But, I don't want to see you working here until I see a letter of approval from the doctor and you without those crutches and cast," Jane tells me strictly. I nod my head, knowing I couldn't change her mind. When the woman has decided on something, nothing you do can change that decision. Jane is one stubborn lady.

It was nearly closing time, when the bell signaled another customer had entered the premises of the cafe which was now empty. Without turning around I said, "Just in the nick of time. We're about to close and you're lucky to be the last customer."

"That's good then. But, I didn't come here for coffee," a deep and familiar voice says.

I froze. I was not ready to face him. In fact, I was confident our paths would never cross again. However, fate seems to be interested in messing with my life. I sigh and turn around, looking at him.

His blue eyes were filled with a strong emotion. Guilt. His hair was neatly combed and he was in a navy blue suit with black tie that loosely hung around his neck. He had his hands in his pockets and he looked at me pleadingly. I had no heart to run away mainly because I can't run and I think he deserves a chance to at least explain.
