[CIA Conference Suite]

Main POV

"How close was the Director to you, Phil?"

The Director sighed before replying. "Father-like, even though he was just a few years senior"

Captain Roger nodded sympathetically sensing the emotion in his friend. Indeed, that was not a surprise. The late Senator was a father figure to almost everyone the Captain has met.

The detectives had been filling up the CIA officers with the crime inspection details done by them.

"Did the Senator contact you in the span of last four weeks?"

"No"

"Last month?"

"No"

"When was the last time you talked to him?"

"When he received the nomination. To pass my wishes"

"How did he sound?"

"The same as always. Cheerful. Inspiring"

The mood in the room was very grim. The common phrase that walls have ears seem to be getting proven by the Agency today as the atmosphere makes one say that the walls in the room were also moaning in grief silently.

All the CIA officers present at the suite were joined to the Agency during the Keats' reign. Their first interviews with the late Senator were playing in their heads as they worked on his mysterious demise details.

"Cause of death has been reported as anaphylaxis."

"What?" The Director piped in to which the Captain nodded, gravely.

"An allergic reaction?"

"Yes. Surely, Phil, you would have known about it-"

"Peanut allergy. Yes. He banned them from our cafeteria"

With those words, the Director had an instant flashback.

"Oh! Sir! Didn't hear you coming!" Philip hurried to stand up as Director Keats entered his office unannounced, which had the door wide open.

A measure taken by Philip due to his claustrophobia.

The Director chuckled. "Not to worry, Phil, I was just passing when I remembered that I had to drop off something for you" Saying so, he reached inside his jacket pocket to dish out something square.

"You left this in that folder you gave me yesterday. Wouldn't want to lose it, would you?"

It was a small card. From Philip's wife.

Seeing the paper creation lying on the Senator's hand made Philip flush deeply. Of all the places it could have been in! Philip hastily shoved the card in to a drawer.

"Knew from the cover it wasn't for my eyes" The Director added, with an amused smile

"Sir?" Philip asked in a confused voice as he simultaneously retrieved the card again to study the cover.
