The White House, Washington DC
April's POV
The grandeur of the Presidential abode was evident even from the crispiness of the bright green grass of the South Lawn. There were soft crunches under our feet and it looked painfully tempting to touch. With my hands trying to stop my dress getting caught up in the wind from the chopper's blades. I walked beside Captain Roger with the detectives on tow as we made our way into our destination.
Just a few feet away from us was the heart of American politics, the symbol of Presidency. The most famous white building in the world that has a lesser known and quite disappointing history. Its European architecture made it look like a modern-day royal palace. Having seen it from afar for years, I never understood what people meant by the White House being indescribably massive until now. I've seen many buildings in my life that are grand and massive but for this white structure, every word to describe something big failed. Because the space it took wasn't just about its physical volume. It had the colossal aura of a ruler from where it stood in the big green land, like a gigantic white lion king keeping a watch over his forest while sunbathing. As we got closer, I could feel it starting to tower over me majestically. Its white cover wasn't intimidating at all yet it effortlessly gave out the message of power.
We were entering the White House from the South Portico meaning the side with the Truman balcony. Once again, I've heard countless tales from people of how they've been lucky enough to pass by the White House and spot the presidents doing mundane things like reading a newspaper out in the balcony. No matter what but this didn't feel like a place one would call home to me but well, I'm no political bigshot and I love cozy spaces. There were two staircases winding up from the sides to the building.
On the path going by the building, there were some police vehicles parked by the side.
"Captain! Hey, that was quick"
There were some police officers scattered by the vehicles and one of them called out to the Captain as we crossed the lawn into the path.
"'lo man, been here for a while?" Captain shook the officer's hand when he got over to him.
"Yeah, I was here with the first team, so now I'm heading back with a ton of things to go through"
"Hm, yeah. Need to be over with this by today as well so we've got quite the day ahead"
