MAIN POV

"There you go...thank you, have a good day"

Handing over a black sleek YSL carrier bag over the counter, Vanessa offered a smile.

"Cheers, dear"

The doors closed behind the middle-aged lady called Caroline, who turned out to be not just in need of a cashmere jacket, but also an ear to listen to her long rant about how her husband had a "fashion phobia", as she put it. Vanessa held on to a tight smile on her face until Caroline had stepped out through the doors and was out of sight. Once the coast was clear, she let out a theatrical breath to tell herself that she managed to make it through that verbal ordeal.

"You know what he wore for our only son's wedding?"

Caroline had sounded distraught. She was sweet but had the air of a typical Karen hidden in her.

"This plain white shirt! From a clearance sale at a Walmart! For your only son's wedding? Can you possibly imagine what could be going through this man's head?"

Economy before fashion, ma'am, your perfect opposite.

Vanessa had an answer in her head while she had improvised the shock that was expected out of her.

"He just did not understand the assignment." She had said with a ridiculed shudder.

However, Vanessa had a moment of doubt on whether Caroline's heavy-lidded eyes saw through her façade as the woman gave her a blank look.

But what she had to say next made Vanessa have a sudden urge to tweet this whole conversation followed by a "searching my will to live" meme.

"Assignment? You mean to say the theme of the wedding? Oh, it had a Texas theme because my daughter in law was from there. She's an angel, by the way"

So the man DID understand the entire assignment then...

"Yes!" Vanessa had hurriedly chimed in with a forced laugh." What was I even saying, sorry... you got my point anyways!"

Now with the store being a little deserted, Vanessa cranked up the soft music a bit to loosen up her head. It felt like her nerves had all twisted up trying to give her service to Caroline. She took a few sips from her mint and fruit smoothie as she sat behind her computer. The sweet cool taste of mint mixed with the sourness of the fruits sent a quiver through her that made her blink her eyes a bit to relinquish it. Recharge, recharge, she kept instructing herself to absorb more energy as she was feeling unusually stressed out in the morning.

Today was going to be a one hell of a busy day.

Those words came to her mind when she saw the notifications panel in her computer display. It was overflowing.

With personal shopper appointment requests.

30+ notifications.

She was partly annoyed at the fact that there seemed to be a increase in them right on the day where only two personal shoppers were available in the shop, who must also deal with the absent pair's appointments as well. Letting out a tiny yawn, she pulled herself closer to her workspace.
