After that night, Remus wasn't any closer to getting over Hedy but to be fair, he didn't want to. He wanted to be with her, even if she couldn't ever fully love him like he would her, but this time he wasn't planning on letting her go. He had been trying to talk to her for a few days now but she couldn't be found, it was almost like she was purposefully avoiding him. Finally he caught her outside, dancing of course which meant that he would have better luck talking to her.

"Hedy!" He called out to her as he walked up to her. She immediately stopped her movements and looked over her shoulder to see him almost jogging to her, she knew she was trapped now. "Can we please just talk?" She just looked at him for a few seconds before nodding her head to continue. "Okay, you've made your stance very clear but you haven't given me that chance to make mine. I never thought I deserved to love because of what I am, I always thought I would hurt the other person or the other person would leave me because of it. But then I met you, and you made me see how wrong I was because you do the same thing. You shut people out because you hurt so much and you think if anyone gets close then they'll eventually leave one way or another."

"That's -"

"I'm not done yet. I know you shut off your emotions because you constantly feel pain and you think it's better to feel nothing than just the bad, I know I've been there. But you're wrong, before you didn't have enough good to balance out the bad, all you had was your siblings. Now you have the Order, the Marauders, you have me." He was kind of out of breath from spewing out that paragraph at her, he just didn't want to be interrupted.

"You're right, I don't have enough good in my life to take away or balance the pain. But that's not your point, is it?"

"My point is that I love you, I finally realized it after that night but I think it's been like that since that Valentine's day when you smiled at me."

"Just stop. You deserve someone who can give you their love, their everything. Someone who can give you a life."

"But I don't want that if it's not with you!" She just looked at him like she was asking 'why can't you let this go?'.

"I can't and you know I can't."

"Trust me, I don't want to see you the way I saw you last time. But I want you so see that there can be more than just pain in your life. Let me be your lifeline." She didn't say anything, she knew this would happen, she knew he would continue to ask her to change. "Let me prove to you that there is more."

"You can't." Hedy turned back towards the house and walked off, leaving Remus and his declaration of love behind. Here's the thing, she knew she liked Remus, maybe even loved, but there wasn't enough of that in her to match the pain. She could feel it deep within her, there was some happiness and love but it was surrounded by a sea of darkness and hurt. She couldn't give in to him, if he had asked years ago maybe she would have, but not now. Now, she had lost hope, all her hope that one day her life would have more light than dark and long gone and all that remained was a hole that could never be filled.

The others in the house were quick to notice the shift between the two. It wasn't that they were friends or talking, but Hedy was no longer actively avoiding Remus, and Remus was more open with trying to get a reaction from her, which was just a lost cause. Ajax and Adonis were overly concerned, mainly because they wanted to avoid a tragedy like they had last time; they kept trying to talk some sense into Remus but he was set.

"I know! I don't want that to happen either, that's why I'm not pressuring."

"Then what the hell are you doing?" Adonis was really not having it, after last time he was not going to let anything else happen to his sister.
