"Where did she go?" Ginny asked Harry. "I don't know," Harry replied. "Maybe she went to get something..." Harry said. "Shouldn't we go and look for her?" George asked, concerned. "I think she went to cool down...She never liked it when people crowded her when she was sad or angry," Ginny said. "Then let's give her the space she needs," Mr. Weasley said. Mrs. Weasley only nodded. "Mum, are you alright?" Ginny asked. "I shouted at her and asked her to leave my house when she wasn't the one at fault. It was all Ron..." Mrs. Weasley said sadly. "You shouldn't blame yourself, Mum. You believed your son, as a mother always does. You were just looking out for Ronald. But, it happened to be that Ronald was lying," Ginny said softly. "Yes, Molly dear. You mustn't blame yourself," Arthur said to his wife. As Mrs. Weasley thought over what they said, a new wave of anger swept through her. She went and slapped her son right across the face. "That was for cheating and going against everything we have taught you...You are no son of mine," She said, before storming up to her room.
Arthur went to cool Molly down, while the rest of them ate. They let Ron eat too, because, whatever he did, he was still their brother. They all ignored him and gave him the cold-shoulder. George tried very hard to lighten the mood, but even his jokes were all half-hearted. When Hermione didn't come back even after an hour, Ginny stood up. "I'm going to check on Hermione," She glared at her brother, before using the floo to go to Hermione and Ron's house. When Ginny saw that all Hermione's belongings had been turned out, she thought that Hermione had gone to her parents' house. They would be in Australia at this time, so Hermione wouldn't have had to deal with them. But when Ginny reached the Grangers' house, there was no one in there. Panicked, Ginny went to Grimmauld Place, searching for Hermione there. "Hermione!" She called out. There was no response. She went to the kitchen, where she found three notes. Thank Merlin! She thought to herself. Hermione's left a note. She must have gone somewhere where I don't know...
Ginny opened her letter and read.
Dear Ginny,
You have been the best friend and sister I could ask for. Thank you for being there for me when no one else was. You have always stuck up for me and have always supported me. But I am afraid I have to go the rest of the way on my own now. This situation with Ronald has made me see that I need to start afresh. I have taken my things from the apartment and I have left. I will be finding a new job and place to stay.
I may find new friends and family in the future, but know this- You are irreplaceable. I love you, Ginny Weasley. You be happy with Harry, have kids, and grow old. Live your life just the way you wanted, just without the bookish know-it-all in your life.
Forget me, and live on. Go on as if I was never in your life.
I hope our paths converge again one day. If not, This is where I say goodbye to you, Ginerva Weasley,
Love you always,
Hermione Granger.
Ginny dropped the letter she was holding and tears started to fall down her face. She left without a word to The Burrow. Upon arriving, she went to Harry, hung on to him, and started sobbing. "Ginny? What happened? Where's Hermione? And why are you crying?" Harry asked, trying to console a very incoherent Ginny. He stroked her hair soothingly and calmed her down. Once she was calm, Ginny said, "It's Hermione...She- She- She's gone!" Ginny sobbed. "Gone? I guess you just can't find her...Maybe she has gone somewhere else. She'll be back, Ginny. Don't worry," Harry said. Ginny shook her head. "N-No. She's gone for good. She left us a note before going. She says that she wants to start afresh," Ginny said, still sobbing, ruining Harry's shirt. "What?!" was the shout from everyone in the room except Ron's. "Zis is not possible! 'Ermione would never leave us," Fleur said. Ginny shook her head and continued sobbing. "Look guys, I'll go back home and see these notes. I'll send a Patronus telling you what I found. Go and tell Mr. and Mrs. Weasley what has happened till now," Harry said, carrying Ginny bridal style.
