House and Job

Hermione Granger found herself in a big flat. It had 5 bedrooms, a kitchen, a big balcony, a living room, and a dining room. It was semi-furnished, with cupboards and a bit of cutlery in the kitchen, along with a fridge. There was also electricity, which didn't surprise Hermione. This flat belonged to a muggle, who was looking for tenants. Hermione had given up all her money in the joint Granger-Weasley vault in her divorce papers so that there was no drama with the cheating bastard. He would have all the money, the flat, and her out of his life.

Hermione checked out the rooms. She wanted 5 bedrooms as she considered converting 3 of them into a library. That would leave her with two bedrooms, one for her, and one for any guests. Guests. Who will come and visit me? Hermione thought.

All Hermione wanted to do was collapse on the bed and sob her heart out, but she didn't want to give Ronald that satisfaction, even if he didn't know it. It was something about her conscience. Even though Ronald couldn't see her, she felt it nice to spite him in her mind. That was why Hermione Granger, War Heroine, Gryffindor Princess applied for a job at Malfoy Industries as a secretary. It kind of fit her, being a secretary. She always made schedules and organized her things, she always did everything exactly on time and maintained excellent records even at her old job at the Ministry. The only thing she wasn't looking forward to, is that if she was called for an interview, she would have to deal with Malfoy. Draco Malfoy.

"The flat is beautiful! I would love to rent this place. How much is the rent per month?" Hermione asked Jacob, the landlord. "Glad you like it, miss. I'll take 2000 pounds per month," Jacob said. That won't be a problem. I still have my own Gringotts account, even though there's not much there, I can survive until I get a well-paid job, Hermione thought. "That won't be a problem, Jacob. Shall we head down to do the paperwork?" Hermione asked. "Sure, miss. Right this way," Jacob said, guiding her down the stairs. "Please, call me Hermione," the brunette said, smiling. Jacob nodded at her before opening the door of his flat. Jacob lived one floor below Hermione. "Christine! Get some tea will ya? We have a guest!" Jacob yelled. A voice was heard from the kitchen. "Alright, Jacob! Coming!" the voice said.

"If you will just sign here, the work will be done," Jacob said. Hermione had been there for about half an hour, signing papers and listening to Jacob telling her all the things that were prohibited for her to do in the house. "No pets, please," Jacob said, as Hermione signed the last paper. "Don't worry! I don't have any pets! I used to have a cat, but then it died. So I don't have any pets," Hermione reassured. "Oh...I'm sorry about the cat. I'm allergic to any animal that has fur or feathers. Fish is okay if you want to keep them, otherwise nothing else," Jacob said. Hermione nodded. "Well, that's it! Here are your keys. Don't lose them, I don't have an extra," Jacob said. "Thank you, Jacob. Don't worry, I'll get an extra made, just in case," Hermione said, smiling. She quickly finished her cold tea and left, thanking Jacob and his wife, Christine again.

Hermione took a deep breath as she entered her flat. She was on the fourth floor of a ten-floor building. This is my new home, she thought. Hermione frowned. She had never thought that there would come a time where she called a lonely flat without Ron or Harry or Ginny her home. Home,  She thought again, looking around at the large flat. She unpacked her things and found her coffee maker. She made herself a cup of coffee and went to bed. She was absolutely exhausted and fell asleep almost immediately.

Draco groaned as his P.A dropped another stack of applications on his desk. He had been going through them for days and had not yet found anyone suitable for the job. Harriet, his ex-secretary had quit after getting a job at the Ministry. "Ava! Is this seriously the smaller pile, or are you just making that up, cause this is fucking huge!" the blonde said. "Yes, Mr. Malfoy. This is the smaller pile. You should see the pile on the empty secretary's desk," Ava said, grinning. "Fine," Draco grumbled. He quickly finished his coffee and sat down to go through the pile of applications. He hoped that he could finally find someone today. He opened the file and his jaw dropped as he read the first name on the list. Hermione Granger. Granger? Why will she be applying for a job? And with me for that matter, Draco thought. He thought of the girl he knew at Hogwarts. He had had feelings for her since 4th year, after the Yule Ball, but had pushed them down. Now, after all these years, his old feelings were starting to show up again. He thought for a moment before shouting, "Ava! Send an owl to Hermione Granger asking her to come here for an interview." A few moments later Ava's voice came back, "Yes, Mr. Malfoy! Will do!" Draco sat and thought about Hermione for a few minutes before sitting to do his work.
