Matthew’s P.O.V.
It’s finally the day I’ve been counting down to for six months. I finally get to spend an entire week with Darsi. A whole week on an island, no worries, no school; just me and the girl I’m in love wi- I mean, my best friend, Darsi. I am NOT in love with her. Right?
We’re on the airplane and I’m looking for my seat. “What’s your seat number, Matty?” Darsi. She always called me that because she knows I hate it, but it’s cute when she calls me it.
“That’s not my name and you know it! It’s uhh… 14 E,” I tell her as I show her my ticket. She looked really excited when I told her but I have no idea why. She tries to make herself cool again, barely achieving her goal.
“Great! We’re sitting next to each other,” She points out, showing off her beautiful smile. I wish she would smile more. I never knew why but she always was either depressed or scared it seemed like. She tries to hide it around me, but I can see right through it now. We make our way to our seats, her still having that smile on her face. She looks beautiful when she’s happy. Wait, what am I saying? She’s my best friend. That’s all I like her as, a friend…
All we do the whole plane ride is play cards and watch a movie on the TV on the back of the seat. She leans her head on my shoulder, sending goose bumps down my spine and a warm, fuzzy feeling in my cheeks and stomach. She slowly drifts off to sleep as I put my arm around her and stroke her soft, wavy, medium length, brunette hair. When we landed, she was still asleep. I barely had the heart to wake her up. She looked adorable when she was sleeping. “Pssst. You with the eyes. We’re here,” I whisper in her ear. She opens her eyes and looks up at me.
“We’re here already?” She mumbles in her morning voice. “Dang it. I was having a great dream. Thanks for ruining it for me,” she said. She gave me a stern look. I felt horrible and I guess it showed too. “Ha! Gotcha! It’s ok, really. It could’ve been a better dream. But I’m glad we’re here.” I laugh and look down at her. We lock eyes for a split second. It felt like forever; just staring into her hazel orbs, seeing the real Darsi; the Darsi I never see anymore. I wish she were mine…
Darsi P.O.V.
We had finally gotten to the house we were staying in for the entire week, and it was gorgeous! The house had a spackle outside that was a light teal color, and the inside was just as breath taking. Tan walls with warm, dark brown furniture. It had this earthy feeling to it that made me feel cozy inside. I go up a spiral star case that leads to a crow's nest (balcony) with an amazing view. “This is beautiful!" I exclaim as i run down the stairs. "I love the crow’s nest. I think that’s where a lot of my nights are going to be spent.”
“I totally agree,” my sister, Layla said. She was two years younger than me, and just like any other sister, a pain in the tush. I hope she’ll leave me and my plan for Ma- I mean my music alone. “Hey, Darsi! Do you want to go swimming?”
“No thanks, Layla. I’m going to go settle in to my room. You can go have fun with Alexis.” Alexis was a little eight year old girl that came with the Harper’s.
Matthew walks in with his bulky, black suit case, looking around in awe at the house. “This place is amazing!” He runs up to me looking happier than ever. I love it when he’s happy. I wish I could be as happy as he is all the time. I want to tell him everything, but I can’t. I brush all the horrifying memories aside, fighting back my tears right before he reaches me. “Where are you staying?”
“I think I’m staying in the cottage on the pull out couch. What about you?” Please be staying in the normal house. Please be staying in the normal house!!
“I’m staying in the bunk room with the rest of the boys. Whoop-die-doo,” he exclaims sarcastically. I laugh at how much he and I are alike. It’s honestly really scary. “Well, I heard you talking to Layla, so I’ll let you go get settled in.”
“Okay. I’ll try and find you after I’m done. Have fun rooming with those… Monkeys? Is that a good word?”
“Hahaha! I like that! Well, I’ll see you later. Bye!” I repeat his last sentence back to him as I go to the cottage that’s not even twenty feet from the main house. I can’t wait till I get done.
