Mavis Pov
"So where is this trail going?" I asked, starring along at the black berry bushes. I wonder if I can eat those... I mean they do look just like black berries.
"You'll see soon enough." He informs me, "well, actually the trail is long. But it's worth the walk"
"Oh, I see. Hmm I'm getting impatient! Can't you just tell me what's at the end?" I pouted. He shook his head, laughing at my childishness.
"You have to wait and see. Words can't describe what's at the end."
"Oh, I like the sound of that! I bet it's really pretty. You have this strange artistic view on life and objects, so it usually means interesting things." I felt excitement build up in me. Surprises were terrible and wonderful at the same time! It gets you full of wonder and joy, but also makes you frustratingly curious.
"It can't be much longer right? I want to see this place!" I was bouncing on my feet. I couldn't contain myself.
"Don't be inpatient. You will see. Just enjoy the way." His words carry a strange tone. Enjoy the way... Hmm. I know Zeref by now. He is most defiantly hiding something. And it's weighing on his mind like crazy I bet. I remembered this morning, when he was waiting at the bus stop. His jaw was clenched and his eyes carried sorrow. It's wasn't about his grades though. It has to be something else.
"Hey Mavis, if your hungry you know you can eat from the blackberry bushes." He tells me. I grin. Ooo good! I was wondering about that.
Zeref Pov.
I'm an idiot. Buying time. That's not going to help me any. In the end it leads to the same result. Losing something you care about. I wanted more time with Mavis though. To make more memories.
That's wrong though. Using her. Letting her think it's all ok. The longer I wait, the more she'd hate me. That's just the truth. I already covered the lying all the time idea. While the outcome sounds nice, lying never ends pretty. Someone would probably tell her. And it wouldn't even come from my mouth. Yeah no, cross that off the list.
Ok suck it up. Enjoy the last few steps then fess up. It's the only way.
"Mm, these blackberries are good. You want any?" Mavis asked, holding a few in her hand. She offered them out to me, her little joyed expression on her face.
"You know what, I'd love some." I take a handful into my mouth. The bittersweet taste of them fill my senses. They're not my favourite fruit, but they taste a lot better than before.
"Ok, it's getting close. We should continue." I let her know. She nods.
"Ok! Awesome!" She runs up ahead of me. "Let's go!"
Mavis Pov.
As I was told that this place was just up the hill, Zeref placed his hands around my eyes. Cause I wasn't allowed to peep at it. Well ok then, make it more suspenseful! I'm fine with that.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
"Ready as ever." I reply, as his hands are lifted from my eyes. My jaw drops open. Oh, my, god! In front of me is this huge tree. And I mean huge! There's a whole bunch of yellow flowers around it's trunk, sort of in this awkward circle. The ground is covered in those orange pine needle like things, that happen to be pretty soft. And, what truly catches my eye are the bunches of crows in this tree. Usually crows are loud and screeching, but these ones are quiet. This place reminds me so much of a place in my dream. It's kind of mystical looking.
"So what do you think?"
"It's amazing! Why have you not shown me this place before?" I questioned, spinning around gazing upwards. I couldn't help it. This was a scene from a fairy tail (note that I'm spelling it that way for a reason) so I was going to act like a princess.
"Well, it never occurred to me before. Plus I wanted to save this place, for a time when I needed to tell you something." His voice trembled at the end a bit. He was nervous. Is he... Going to say what I think? No no. I'm being ridiculous. But could he?
"You see, over this time when we got to know each other, I kind of have been thinking." He looks down at his feet, fidgeting. He looked so cute being all nervous and stuff. But my mind was racing, along with my heart. I couldn't help but think it. I mean it's a possibility.
"You've been thinking about what?" I encourage him to continue.
"I've been thinking I should tell you something. Something really important." His words replay in my mind since he spoke them. I never thought he would, but... I think he is! He.... Is he..... Is he going to ask me out?
"Well, I'd want you to tell me. If it is important." I let him know, stating it smartly. I don't know wether I'm really anxious or really nervous, or excited! But probably a mixture of all.
"Mavis, I think you've known for awhile now, from everyone. That something happened in grade six for me. A really big turn of events." His words take a twist. I feel a bit of disappointment until I finally get a grip on what he said. No way. He's telling me, his big dark secret! Oh god... I- I- what if I'm not ready? No, no. I need to know. I've wanted to know since I've met him. Nows my chance to find out. I'm not going to blow it. I nod to let him know I'm listening.
"Well, you out of everyone deserves the true story. Most people, hell I think everybody except for me knows the whole true story. They only know half. No not even half. Just that one simple detail. And that's all they care about." His voice has suppressed anger and aggression in it. I guess people can get to you... If it's been that long.
"And, what is that one simple detail exactly?" I ask, feeling all my emotions coming over me. Holy crap here we go. I watch as his mouth opens, about to say it all. To spill the words I'm eagerly wanting to know. He takes a deep breath, starring at me in the eyes. A single tear falls from his left eye. He's not backing down now.
"Mavis, I've killed someone."
