(Mavis Pov)

"Hey Mavis come meet my friends!" Lucy called to me as the lunch bell rang. I was in the same history class as her and I recognized some of her friends from the other classes. I walked over to them.

"This is my friend Juvia, she's a sweet heart but-" Lucy leans in to whisper to me, "she sort thinks I'm her romantic rival for this guy named gray." I laugh. I knew Gray. He's in my art class. He seems, interesting. He has a habit of taking his shirt off at random times.

"Hello Mavis." Juvia said to me. She had blue hair that was curled at the ends with watery blue eyes and pale skin.

"This one is Erza. She may seem really tough cause she's captain of many sports teams but she's actually pretty cute." Lucy teased, pointing at a stunning girl with long scarlet red hair.

"It's nice to meet you." She said respectfully.

"You too!" I smiled back.

"And lastly this is-" Lucy began but was cut off by a tall boy with long black hair and iron piercings.

"This is shrimp. She's a nerd." The boy said, smirking. The short girl glared at him.

"Gajeel..." She said angrily under her breath.

"What I'm just teasing! Don't be so tense shorty." He tousled her hair and then walked off laughing.

"Ugh, Gajeel's such a dork." The short girl said, shaking her head.

"Oh come on Levy, we all know you liiiikkke him." Lucy giggled. Levy blushed viciously.

"Sh-shut up!" She exclaimed, clearly embarrassed. I laughed along with them. They seem like such sweet people.

"You should eat lunch with us Mavis." Lucy offered. I grinned.

"Sure! Just let me get some things from my locker and I'll join you!" I told them. They waved goodbye to me, as they headed downstairs to the cafeteria. I skipped to my locker, being in a surprisingly good mood. My first day here was going so well.

As I stopped at my locker I gazed over at a boy who was sitting alone in a corner. He had messy black hair, and wore dark clothing. He was so quiet, I barely noticed him. I walked up towards him.

"Hello there, are you alright?" I asked him. He gazed up at me. My heart stopped. In that moment it felt like fate had just crashed heavily down upon me. I knew, this boy would be something to me. But what? Curiosity flooded through me. I wanted to know who he was.

"I'm fine." He muttered, looking away. Did he feel the fate thing too? Or was it just my imagination?

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't of asked." I said, sitting next to him. He looked confused at me.

"What are you doing?" He asked. I gave him a light smile. It usually cheered people up.

"I'm talking to you." I said, jutting out my hand at him. "I'm Mavis. You?" He didn't shake my hand or look at me.

"Zeref." He said it in a way that sent shivers down my spine. Like I should fear his name or something. Maybe I should, I don't really know this guy. He could be a total creep, or perv. Only, he really doesn't seem like one. He's just- different.

"Well, Zeref. Want to join me for lunch?" I asked him. His eyes darted at me like daggers.

"You're new here, aren't you Mavis?" He said more than asked.

"Ugh, yeah. I guess it's sort of obvious isn-"

"Mavis, I'm not someone you should speak to. So just leave, ok?" He told me harshly. No sign of kindness in that sentence. Oh no, he hates me. Doesn't he? I sort of want to cry. I hate being yelled at, but I won't cry. I just have a feeling, if I cry, I won't achieve anything. So I force them back, and refuse to let them fall.

"I'll leave if you want me to. But, I hope you realize I'm not the sort of person to just ignore people. So expect to be talked to in the future." I warned him in a friendly way. He sighed. I walked away and went downstairs, I had some friends to meet.
