Katerina Ava Bistra was the only daughter of Ivan Bistra and Emilia Holland. Born and raised in Bulgaria for the first few years of her life before moving to Britain where her mother's family owns a bakery that she took over. When not in school Kat helps out in the bakery, that is when she's not gawking over the stories her dad tells her from being a curse breaker at Gringotts bank. Kat is very close with her family, her extended family, however, is a whole other story.
Ivan Bistra was raised in a pureblood elitist family but openly shared different beliefs. When Ivan had married Emilia, a muggle, his family broke off all connections with him except for his sister Tatia. Although Kat didn't have much of a family life she was practically adopted into a large household full of red-heads. Arthur Weasley and Ivan have worked together on many occasions but what brought them all close was Kat's friendship with the Weasley twins, George and Fred.
Beginning her time at Hogwarts the twins were some of the first people she met and befriended. Getting involved with the two pranksters lead to her having friendships with Bill and Charlie Weasley, the two oldest of the family. After his time at Hogwarts Bill had become a curse breaker like Kat's father, before he was sent to work in Egypt he spent lots of time training with Ivan.
Charlie, the dragon obsessed Weasley often helped Kat with her Care of Magical Creatures class. Kat was one of the few that could sit and listen to him tell her stories and talk to him for hours about all different creatures both from the wizarding world and muggle world. Something Charlie immensely appreciated.
