Airi thinks she's a resilient person. When an old man had taken Itsuki with him and returned his naked dead body the next day with bruises on his necks and wrists, she had felt a part of her soul taken away from her like everything will never be alright, but she stood on her two feet and held on to Hanako's hand then as if the deities saw that Airi wasn't suffering enough, they took Hanako too but she didn't have enough time to grief, not even given time for reality to sink in when the role of "Eldest child" was placed on her. She was now the Colosseum's eldest and would need to lead the other children.

'...lead the other children to what?'Airi scoffs, 'to their deaths?'

Whatever it was, she was expected to be great. To show the other kids how "strong" it was to be the Eldest and make the other children want to be the same. She's twelve, about to turn thirteen and she wasn't the same nine-years-old she was. She grew to be more cunning, to use whatever she has in her hands to gain the upper hand. To survive. To live another day. She doesn't know why she would ever want to live one more day in this hell but she did. She didn't want to die. She had always wondered why, she who had nothing, was always starving, was never happy would ever want to live but she wanted to all the same. Maybe see the world? Maybe experience new things? She doesn't know. After all, she'd only been here, never had even seen the sky. The sunlight that came down from the small barred window on the highest point of the wall when the children were in the sitting room was the nearest thing she'd ever been able to feel. Whatever it was, she fought others like a madman to make sure she'd be able to breathe. She might have turned into a cruel monster if it wasn't for Akihiko.

Akihiko was her last thread, her comfort in a miserable world. With him, she knows she always has a safe place. She just needs him to be on her side. After Hanako she thought she would never find anyone to lean on again then Akihiko came. Akihiko was the oldest child to enter Colosseum. Kids, including Airi, enter the Colosseum ranging from age five to eight but Akihiko entered when he was eleven, a year after Hanako died. It was extremely peculiar and the other children had avoided him like the plague. Akihiko was different from the rest and it showed on his first day here. His name was different, the only person whose name wasn't about trees or flowers, the only child who had a name before they entered the Colosseum. He had fair skin with no wounds nor scar, soft hands that showed he had never worked or had a chore, a fiery disposition, and the most frighteningly different was the big innocent eyes, befitting of a child, but revealed he had never looked death in the eye before. No one had that look in the Colosseum, not the children. Akihiko looked more like a child compared to the five-year-olds in the Colosseum. Of course, that disappeared too when he had his first fight. They saw the innocence of a kid disappear in his eyes and the child-like innocence. Only then, had the other kids approached him. Now, he was familiar.
