I knocked on James's door at around 2 am.
My eyes were bloodshot and in pain from the tears that had fallen from my face as I rode out of LondonWhen my best friend opened the front door, he rubbed his eyes tiredly, and looked like he had gotten slapped in the face when he realized that it was I who had knocked this late into the night.
"Sirius?" He asked tiredly, maybe he thought he was having a dream or a hallucination.
"Surprise" I said awkwardly, doing my best jazz hands
"Is everything alright?" James asked, I know James is insanely immature and downright dim-witted but he always was good at knowing when something was wrong.I mean, how could he not? It's 1am and I'm at his door.
"I left." I told him.
"Finally." He said with a sigh of absolute relief before ushering me inside the house.
I took a deep breath, closing the door quietly behind us, which echoed down the entry hall of James's manor.
Together James and I dragged my trunk into the foyer.
He made some tea for us and we sat in his large open Living room where a tree almost as big as the Hogwarts ones was placed and beautifully decorated.
Neither of us had said a word, a expected he was waiting for me to tell him when I was ready.
James Potter was an excellent listener when he chose to be.
So I told him about winter break so far and why I'd left, sparing no detail.
I told him about Juliet and our shared...depressive symptoms.
I told him about my brother who had presumably been getting on rather well with her at dinner and of course I told him about how Juliet Crescent had jumped to my aid, defending my name as if she had known and cared for me her whole life."She threatened Bellatrix Lestrange?, is she mental?"
"Really?, that's all that you're taking out of this conversation"
"Well no, but that's a big part of it"
I rolled my eyes, a part of me wanted to laugh.
A huge weight felt like it had been lifted from my chest as soon as I'd walked into the house of my best friend, a place where I'd had some of my best memories."What are your parents going to say when they wake up and find me here" I asked.
"Oh they'll be alright with it, it gets lonely here during the holidays, they love company"
James seemed to have read my mind as I thought about how much of a burden it must be for this perfect guy to be stuck with me.
"You aren't a burden Sirius, maybe a pain in my arse but that's it"
I smiled, James truly was my best friend

The light of dawn brushed across my face as it fell though the large window across my dusty room, the birds chirped happily in the distance.
But of course this perfect morning was ruined quickly when Mrs. Black began to stomp up the stairs at surprising speed. The sound of her boots sounded like a hammer on wood as she cursed her son Sirius on the way up.
My mind flew to Sirius quickly, he had fled in the dead of night only for his mother to awake and find him gone.
