Oh my god this chapter is so long-

~~~
Blood isn't like how they portray it to be on television.
It's much thicker than the very obvious fake blood that's used, darker in color too. And it smells. Not necessarily strongly, but you can tell the scent is there. Almost like catching a whiff of the metallic scent after you finish holding a handful of pennies.
When in mass amounts, however, it's different. It's unnerving, unsettling. A feeling of discomfort, because you know there isn't supposed to be that much outside of the body.
At least, that's what you felt.
Seeing the thick, red liquid pool around the man's lifeless body, his face holding no expression and his limbs laying limp at his sides. It was a feeling you didn't want to feel again.
It wasn't the blood, however, that was keeping you from sleeping.
It was his eyes. Those eyes, with no trace of life in them whatsoever, staring mindlessly towards the moonlit sky. You only got a glimpse of them in that particular state, but that small look was enough to keep you from falling asleep.
Every time you closed your eyes, you saw his. Dull, lifeless, glossed over and reflecting the sliver of light that was in the sky. Made you wonder...
How was it that Kuroo was able to sleep so soundly?
The sound of his quiet breathing was the only thing you could hear in the room. The occasional horn honk or siren would go off outside, but was muffled by the walls. His arm still wrapped around your torso, his face still buried in the back of your neck.
He was still there. Still with you. Still holding on like his life depended on it, because in a way, it did.
Truthfully, he hadn't been able to sleep either.
He thought maybe if he pretended he was asleep, it could coerce you into drifting off as well. But when he felt you constantly shifting around throughout the night, he realized you were just as restless as he.
"Y/n." The boy didn't exactly know why your name left his mouth, and yet he didn't exactly regret it. His tone was low, quiet as to not wake you if you somehow had fallen asleep.
You turned your head slightly, enough to let him know you were listening, but not enough to where you could see him. He liked it that way.
"Are you okay?" The reason as to why he asked this question was unknown as well. He already knew the answer.
You hesitated. Your body tensed, enough for Kuroo to feel it against his arm that was still tightly holding onto you.
"Not really." A dull reply. "Are...are you?"
"Not really." He mimicked your words and let his head fall back down onto the cool fabric of the pillow.
A small amount of time passed in silence as you both laid together, breaths almost in sync before you decided to speak up again.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
You hesitated, but only for a moment before letting the words slip past your lips. "For protecting me back there."
It was his turn to tense at your words. His fingers gripped the shirt that draped around your body. Of all things you could've said, he didn't want it to be that.
"Don't thank me for what I did."
For the first time since the event, you heard emotion in his voice. It was angry, not at you necessarily, but more targeted towards himself.
