As the leaves left their places on the dry branches of the trees that hung over the frosted ground, you realized it was about that time of year.
That time of year that was already inching closer to the first snowfall, and it made you think of actually how long you had been away from home, from your life. Time had flown by, and before you really could comprehend the situation fully, it was almost winter.
You specifically thought about home. How during the first snowfall you and your friends would go make snow-angels or celebrate with hot chocolate. You thought about how you'd always start bringing an extra coat to school because of your one forgetful friend who somehow almost always forgets a jacket. And most importantly, you thought about home. Your family.
What would they think if they knew what you did?
What you were do doing?
Who you were with?
Would they still love you as is?
Would they accept you?
Help you?
No. You told yourself. They wouldn't understand.
Unbeknownst to you, Kuroo was thinking the same things.
He was never vocal with what was going on inside that brain of his, never wanted to be either. He knew you needed him, knew you depended on and trusted him more than anyone, and he was content with that. It brought that sense of purpose back to his life that he so desperately craved.
He shouldn't feel good about someone needing him the way you do, but he can't help himself from feeling a little too excited when you mindlessly search for him in your sleep, your hands wandering the sheets until they find his and grip them tightly. He would always stare at your sleeping face, thinking you looked so at peace, so content. So different than when you're awake and constantly on edge.
A part of him never wanted you to wake up when he saw you that way.
But the second those thoughts clawed their way to his brain, he quickly shooed them away and went back to sleep. Though they still found a place to settle at the back of his mind.

Today was the official first day of winter, yet no snow had shown itself. The cold air was very apparent though as you stepped out into the dark and frozen atmosphere, a chill running down your spine as you wrapped your arms around your body. You had arrived at your destination during the night, so the wind was just as chilly as the hours before, if not more so.
"Cold?" Kuroo chirped from behind you, placing a gentle hand on your back and kissing your temple.
"Yeah, it's freezing out here. I wish I would've brought a bigger coat..." Your hands shook as you slung your backpack over your shoulder, another shiver shooting through your body.
"Here, wear this."
A sudden comforting warmth was placed over your shoulders and you craned your neck to see. Kuroo had taken off his own jacket, leaving him only in a hoodie to keep him warm.
"Tetsurou, no. I don't want you getting cold or sick-" As you attempted to shimmy the jacket off your shoulders, Kuroo's hands placed it back on you, smoothing out the edges before turned your face with one hand and placing a kiss on your cold lips.
"It's fine, I've got others." He smiled and patted your butt. "Go on, now. Go get unpacked while I grab the rest of this stuff."
You rolled your eyes playfully and, with a light jog, strode up to the heavy wooden door.
Kuroo had somehow found a small but cheap cabin to rent out in the middle of nowhere. The dude who he was renting it out from was shady enough, so he didn't ask any prying questions as to why two obvious teenagers needed a secluded cabin. In fact, he didn't really ask for any paperwork that would usually be necessary in order to rent somewhere. He said as long as you were willing to pay, he wasn't going to ask.
