The next day, my ankle was feeling better, so I went to school. During breakfast, I was texting with Chloe. Last night I talked to her on the phone about the incident.
“What do u expect at school today?” she texted me.
“Hopefully no drama” I texted back, and left for school.
I walked slowly to school, as I could not walk fast.
When I arrived at school, I was surprised to see Dylan by the gate. He smiled at me when he saw me.
“Hi (Yn), feeling better today?”
“Yeah, thanks,” I grinned at him.
“Do you need he—” he was about to offer taking my books for me, when Edward came running towards us.
“(Yn)!” he yelled even before he was close enough.
Everyone looked at us, and I tried to ignore their curious stares and the murmurs going around.
“Hey baby,” Edward smiled his Edward smile at me. I realized he had this special smile which was my favorite. But yeah, I still did not like him in THAT way, and really, he was over-flirty, “Let me help you with these,” he took my books away from my hands.
“Th – thank you,” I said, and glanced at Dylan. He had his brows pulled together.
“Come on, let’s get to the classroom at sit down,” Edward said, and took my hand, leaving Dylan behind.
The whole day Edward was very nice to me, always helping with my stuff. I saw Dylan a couple of times, and he just gave me small smiles.
During lunch time, I tried to sit next to Dylan, but Alan was faster than me. The people at our table smiled at me and Edward when we sat down.
“Hey (Yn),” this girl called Amanda called me. I heard that she had a huge crush on Edward and she was very protective over him. I looked up at her carefully, and to my surprised she was smiling at me whole-heartedly, “So we all saw what happened yesterday… How’s your ankle?”
“It’s getting better, thanks,” I replied.
“And well… Are you and Edward an item now?”
Everyone looked at us, clearly listening to our conversation now. The girls seemed interested, but the boys just pulled faces and shook their heads.
Edward laughed, and I quickly replied, “No! We’re just friends,”
“Really?” she seemed a bit taken aback, “(Yn) you’re such a sweet girl, and you two actually look cute together! What a pity!”
Wow. Amanda said we looked cute together? And she was not mad? I thought that might be due to my attitude at the beginning; if I showed that I was after Edward at the very beginning, the girls might hate me now.
I blushed, as everyone now had their attention on me. Dylan was expressionless, and looked as if he was not interested in our conversation. I looked up at Edward, and he was smiling at his food, deep in thought.
The rest of the day went by quickly, and Edward offered to take me home. I agreed to it, and we small talked along the way.
When I got home, there was no one home as Mum had gone out shopping. I was about to thank Edward and say goodbye when he stopped me.
“(Yn),” he began seriously, and I wondered what he was trying to say, “I was thinking about something.”
“Yes?”
“Well – you know I like you, A LOT, you know that right?”
I nodded, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
“Do you like me?”
“Edward,” I tried to get this straight without hurting him, “I like you, but not in that sense. You’re a really great friend.”
“So you like me,”
“Yes but—”
“I really want to give it a go,” he said, “Give me a chance, (Yn).”
I thought of Dylan. The one I liked right now was actually Dylan.
“I – I don’t know,” I finally said.
“Do I bug you sometimes? Be honest,”
I slowly nodded, “You’re sometimes trying too hard,”
I thought this would hurt him a bit. But no, a smile slowly broke out on his face, “Then we’ll make a deal,”
“Huh?” I thought I heard him wrong.
“Give me a month,” he smirked, “Be my girlfriend for a month, and if I can make you fall in love with me within this month, then well, yeah – but if I can’t, I’ll stop bugging you about this.”
“Be your girlfriend for a month? How?”
“Don’t tell anybody, including your parents; this will be our secret, or else I’ll break my promise and annoy you forever,”
I thought about it. But how would Dylan react to this? What if he hated me for this? Then I would never get a chance with him!
I looked at Edward. He had been a caring and nice friend to me, and he had done so much for me; he certainly deserved this chance. And now I thought about it, it did benefit me – if he failed, which I was quite positive about, he would leave me alone and not to nag me about this.
So I reached out my hand, “Deal,”
He shook my hand, smirking, “Deal,”
“So, see you—” I was about to say goodbye.
“Wait,” he stopped me, “Can I come in? You’ll have to tell your parents about this to make it real too.”
“Alright, I’m going to take a shower now,” I stepped aside to let him in, “There’re some drinks and snacks in the kitchen, make yourself at home.”
I went upstairs, and went into the shower. I took a nice and long shower, and when I was done, I wrapped a towel around myself and went out of the bathroom to search for some clothes.
When I opened the door, I saw Edward sitting on my bed. He looked at my almost-naked body and whistled, “Nice,” he grinned.
I screamed, “Why are you here? GET OUT!”
“Come on, I’m your boyfriend now,” he said cheekily, still on the bed.
“Only in front of people! Get out!”
He stood up, still smiling, “Alright, don’t scream okay, or your neighbors will think that we’re…” then he laughed.
I glared at him, “They’ll not; they’ll think that you’re raping me!”
“Whatever, just don’t scream okay,” he went out of the room.
I quickly locked the door, and went to threw on some T-shirt and shorts.
Then I went downstairs to find Edward on the sofa watching TV.
“Why did you have to change out of that?” he looked up at me, pulling a sad face, “I like your previous outfit.”
“Shut up,” I gave him a death stare.
I sat down on the sofa, but as far away from him as possible.
A while later, I heard the key turning in the lock. It was probably my mum.
Edward immediately sat closer to me and wrapped his arm around me, “Hey, get off me!” I protested, trying to push him away.
“Shh!” Edward whispered, “We’ll have to act!”
I looked down at his arm around me, and his hand was on my butt.
“Your. Hand.” I glared at him.
“Sorry!” he smirked, and moved his hand higher to my waist instead. I tried to act natural and rested my head on Edward’s chest, and I heard him chuckle.
“Hey I’m—” Mum came into the room, and looked at us wide-eyed, “Hi Edward! Nice to see you here!”
“Hi Mrs. (your last name),” he smiled at my mum. Mum looked at us with the weird expression, like she was trying to tell me “I told you!”
Mum went into the kitchen to put away the shopping, and came to sit across from us.
“So,” she said once she was on the sofa, “Are you two together?”
I shot her a look, but said, “Yes… Edward is my boyfriend,”
Mum squealed with delight, “Oh my God that’s great! You two look so adorable together!” then she added to Edward, “Take good care of her though, huh?”
“Of course I will,” Edward kissed my head, and I flinched a bit. Luckily Mum did not notice.
“Edward, would you like to stay for dinner tonight?” Mum asked excitedly.
“Mum,” I said.
“I’d love to,” Edward smiled at Mum, “Let me call home first. Excuse me for a while.”
Edward left the room to call home, and Mum kept telling me how great this was, and I just smiled small and nodded.
Dinner went smoothly, and Dad approved of Edward. They both thought he was a decent guy.
That night, I texted Chloe. I told her about the whole thing, because Edward did not mention I could not tell her, did he?
“R U SERIOUS?!” she texted.
“I think I must be insane…” I texted back.
“Wow, who knows if you’ll fall for him? He’s one hot guy!”
“Yeah, but I’m quite sure it won’t happen”
Yeah, I was quite sure about it.
