We arrived at Edward’s house, and once we were inside, he showed me around his house. Then we went to his room.
His room was like most teenage boys’ rooms – a bit messy, stuff scattered everywhere. There were photos of his childhood and him and his family and friends on one of the walls.
I walked up to the wall and looked at his pictures. He started tidying up his room a bit, and I noticed that he was staring at me while doing so.
I was still looking at his pictures when he had finished putting away his stuff.
“You look cute when you’re little,” I told him, staring at this picture of him in the bubble bath.
“Aren’t I cute now?” he asked, I looked at him and he was looking at me with this puppy face. I giggled, “Yeah, yeah, you are, happy?”
“Yeah,” he smiled his Edward smile and kissed my temple.
“Hey!” I laughed, although I was expecting this annoyed feeling. I wondered why it did not come.
“Come here, let’s watch some movies,” he pulled on my hand and led me to this cupboard. He opened it; it was full of CDs, DVDs and some random stuff. Some of the stuff fell out as it was so full. I laughed a bit, and he pulled out a couple of DVDs. He then led me to his bed, and laid the DVDs out for me to choose.
“Which one do you want to watch first?” he gestured to the discs lying on the bed.
They were all horror movies, “All scary movies?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
He grinned cheekily, “Don’t you like watching them? Don’t tell me you’re scared,”
I knew what he was thinking; he was hoping that I would snuggle up to him during the scary parts. But actually, I was pretty sure I would not be that chicken.
“Of course I’m not!” I said defensively, “Okay I’ll choose one.”
At last I picked the one that looked that scariest, trying to prove to him that I was not a coward.
“Ooooh,” he said, “Trying to be brave?”
“Shut up,” I snapped.
“Alright, I’ll play it,” he went to the DVD player and inserted the disc, and put away the other DVDs. He closed the curtains and the room was dark other than the light from the TV screen. Then he held my hand and made me sit down on his bed with him. I kept a distance of a foot between us. I glanced at him sideways and saw that he had a smug smile on his face.
The movie started to play; at first it was okay, and I did not even flinch. I glanced at Edward again, and he was smiling although we were watching a horror movie. Weirdo.
Then the movie started to get scarier. I tried to hold in my screams, wanting to prove Edward wrong about me being a coward, and of course, to prevent his plan from working. I also tried not to flinch too much.
I caught Edward glancing at me; he had obviously noticed how uncomfortable I was now. His smile broadened.
I held my breath and froze my position, trying to hold myself still. But then something much scarier came on and I could not hold it anymore. I screamed a little and covered my eyes.
I heard Edward laughed beside me, “Come here, I’ll protect you,”
“No!” I stuck my tongue out at him.
“Suit yourself then,” he said, grinning. I thought the scariest part was over? Why did he still look like that?
I relaxed, and continued watching. But I was wrong; the most frightening part was yet to come. When it came, I screamed my lungs out and buried myself in Edward’s chest. He chuckled, and my face was burning red in defeat. I looked up at him and he happily put him arm around me tightly.
“Told you,” he said smugly. I did not reply, but kept my position. I grasped his T-shirt tightly in one hand, and my head was buried right under his arm in case I would have to hide again.
There were still a few frightening parts following the scene that made me give up my determination, and I screamed a few times, each time using Edward as a shield. I could tell that Edward was enjoying himself from his expression and the way he tightened his arm around me each time I screamed, and it had nothing to do with watching the movie.
At last the movie came to an end, and I instantly relaxed. The room became dark again as the movie was over.
I was still snuggled up to Edward, so I tried to slip out of his arm, but he refused and even tightened his arm around me.
“Wh—” I looked up at him, and he was looking down at me, his face only inches apart from mine. I could not pronounce any sound as I looked at his face using the weak light that had escaped through the gaps in the curtain. Strands of his hair falling into his eyes, his kissable lips blowing warm breath onto my lips. He looked stunning.
He bent his face closer to mine, and I was getting this weird feeling in my stomach. Right before his lips touched mine, I pulled away. It must be the romantic setting that was messing with my head.
Edward’s face fell, and dropped his arm around me. I straightened up myself, and moved farther away from him.
“I – I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
“It’s okay,” I gave him a small smile. He pursed his lips into a thin line.
Awkward silence.
At last I decided to break the silence, “I guess I’d better head home; thanks for inviting me around,”
“No problem,” he smiled weakly, “You can come again whenever you want.”
I got up from the bed, and headed downstairs with Edward following. Just then the front door opened. It was Edward’s mum, I noticed from the pictures I saw from his room.
She looked from Edward to me with an eyebrow raised.
“Mum, this is (Yn),” Edward introduced me, “And this is my mum.”
“Hi Mrs. Grimes,” I said shyly. She was looking me up and down, and then broke into a warm smile.
“Nice to meet you,” she smiled at me.
“And mum,” Edward began hesitantly, “She – she is my girlfriend.”
Mrs. Grimes looked at us, surprised, but then suspiciously.
“What were you two doing just then?” she asked.
“We were just watching movies, Mum!” Edward groaned, “And (Yn) is about to go home; I’ll walk her back yeah?”
“Alright alright,” she said, as she could see that he was telling the truth, “See you (Yn)!” she smiled at me again.
“Goodbye Mrs. Grimes,” I returned the smile.
During the walk back home, it was a bit awkward. Edward did not say much, which was very unlike his usual bubbly and confident self. He looked as if he was deep in thought.
When we were outside my house, Edward turned to me, “So I guess I’ll see you tomorrow,” he looked much better now, and he was even smiling; I wondered what suddenly caused this good mood.
“Bye Edward, and thanks,” I gave him a hug. He kissed the top of my head.
When I got inside, I just went straight up to my room after telling Mum that I was back.
Once I closed the bedroom door behind me, I took out my phone, telling Chloe what had just happened.
“U should just let him kiss you!” she texted back.
“But I don’t like him in that way”
“Didn’t u feel anything?”
I hesitated. I remembered that weird feeling I got when our faces were so close.
“A little bit something, but it was certainly nothing”
“Why don’t u give him a chance?”
“I’m giving him a chance!”
“U get what I mean,”
“I know but I don’t want 2 hurt him”
“It’s not fair 2 him, this deal thingy is pointless, u think u won’t hurt him after this whole thing?”
I thought about it. Maybe Chloe was right. But I thought I would just let it be, and not think about this deal while I was with him. I should just stay true to myself, and not to be so stubborn. Edward was a great guy, honestly I did not want to hurt him.
