The next day, I went through my routine like usual. Today I wore a tank top with buttons and shorts with some random flats. It seemed quite sunny and hot today, but I grabbed a jacket and stuffed it into my bag in case it got cooler later.
When I was ready and opened the front door, Edward was there again.
“Hey beautiful,” Edward scanned me from head to toe, and licked his lips, “You look sexy today.”
I hit him playfully on the arm, “Shut up!”
I was glad that the awkwardness between us was gone.
Mum passed by the door behind me, “Hey Edward! Nice to see you picking (Yn) up again,”
“Morning Mrs. (your last name),” Edward flashed his trademark Edward smile at Mum. Mum giggled. Oh Mum.
“You ready?” Edward asked me.
“Yeah,”
So we walked to school together, laughing along the way. When we were about to reach school, Edward did not take my hand; he wrapped his arm around my waist instead. I did not reject, as I was now more comfortable around him.
Most of the people turned around to look at us when we entered the school ground, although this was the second day of us being together. I sighed; Edward was just too popular.
I spotted Dylan in the crowd, and he was looking at us with a weird expression. It was a mixture of confusion and jealousy. Suddenly I felt very bad.
Edward felt me tensed up beside him, “What’s wrong?” he whispered in my ear.
I glanced at Dylan again, and Edward followed my gaze. He sighed when he knew what was happening.
“Don’t worry okay,” he whispered softly, “I promise I’ll make you happy. You don’t really need him; you deserve someone much better.”
I thought there was more behind his words. Like he was hiding a secret. And although I should be mad at his words, after all, he knew I really liked Dylan, I did not know why I just could not get mad. I even felt a bit better after hearing those words.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked him suspiciously. He looked uneasy.
“He isn’t really who you think he is,” he simply said.
“Then who is he?” I shot another question at him.
He pursed his lips. I knew he would not say anymore on this topic.
We approached the standard group of people by the entrance, and they were smiling at us. Alan and James gave Edward a punch on the arm when we were close enough.
“Wow (Yn), you look really hot today,” Alan whistled and grinned at me.
“Stop hooking on my girl before I beat your brain out of you,” Edward said jokingly, and kissed my head.
“Love birds,” James teased. Edward stuck his tongue out at him.
Just then Dylan went pass us. He was looking at me with this strange expression again.
Edward noticed, and told the others, “Okay we’ll go now, see you guys later,” then he pulled me away into the school building.
“What’s the rush?” I asked him while he was dragging me down the hallway quickly.
“I need to tell you something,” he said with a serious expression on, “Let’s find a quiet place.”
He pulled me along a deserted hallway and into the music room. He closed the door behind us.
“Okay,” I said nervously, “You’re scaring me now.”
“Don’t worry I’m not doing anything okay,” he said.
“I know don’t be stupid okay and I trust you but what is this thing you want to tell me about which seems so serious?”
“I just want to warn you about that Dylan guy,” he said.
“What about him? I thought you didn’t want to talk about him?”
“He’s seriously creeping me out; just be careful of him and stay away from him,”
“Does this have anything to do with your jealousy?” I raised an eyebrow.
“No I’m serious okay, it’s for your own safety,”
I giggled, “What will he do to me? For my own safety? He seems so sweet; I wonder if he’ll even kill an ant!”
“I’m not joking,” he said with a serious expression. I could tell he really was not kidding now.
“Come on Edward; tell me, what about him? Just say it,”
“I can’t okay, it’s – it’s complicated; just trust me, stay away from him,”
“Okay okay,” I surrendered, “I’ll try.”
“You MUST do it,”
I sighed, “Alright,”
“Good girl,” he finally relaxed and smiled.
He got us out of the music room and we went into the classroom. Dylan was there, and he was looking straight at me. I avoided his gaze. Even though I did not know what exactly was happening, I listened to Edward.
The rest of the day passed quickly, and I was being quiet all day. I was thinking about Dylan, and what Edward was trying to say. Edward of course noticed my mood, but he did not try to say anything. He just gave me space and let me digest his words. I actually started to like him more now; he could be a gentleman, although he seemed like a player at first. But still it did not mean I liked him in that way now.
After school, Edward walked me home. My mum was home, and Edward just said he would let me have some alone time today. I was glad to hear that; I had too much on my mind.
“See you tomorrow,” he hugged me before he left.
I went up to my room, and suddenly my phone rang. To my horror it was Dylan. I was debating whether to answer it or not; but I answered it after a few more rings anyway.
“Hi,” I said gingerly.
“Hi (Yn),” he said casually, “What are you doing now?”
I thought for a while, as something was telling me that telling him the truth would not be a good idea, “I’m just busy doing some stuff,”
“Oh, with Edward?” he said, sarcastically. I was surprised to hear him like that.
“No,” I replied, “He’s not with me.”
“Oh,” he said, taken aback, “So I guess I’ll leave you alone then.”
“What do you want to do anyway?” I asked him, knowing that he was up to something.
“I was just asking if you want to hang out,” he said.
“I’m sorry Dylan, I’m really busy now,” I said, and was glad that I did not tell him I was free.
“It’s okay, so I guess see you tomorrow,” he said.
“Okay, goodbye,”
“Bye,”
And he hanged up. I gave a sigh of relief. Phew, that was close.
Then I texted Chloe, telling her what had happened today.
“I think u did right, it sounds like this Dylan guy is bad news :S” she texted me after I had told her about every little detail.
“Why?”
“I don’t know, I just feel like it”
“Do u think this is simply due 2 Edward’s jealousy?”
“I don’t think so; he doesn’t seem that childish!”
“I trust u then”
“Btw (Yn), u should really introduce him 2 me when I come over 2 visit u ;)”
“WHAT?” I read the text again, not believing my eyes.
“Yeah my parents let me visit u soon! :D”
“YAAAAAAAY! :DD” I was practically over the moon! I just could not wait until she came here! I had missed her so much already.
Thinking about this made me feel much happier.
