We were in one out of the six wards at the last level. One ward has at least eight kids each. I was leaning against the door, while watching Chris entertaining the kids.
"Hmm, what have I gotten you Hannah?" He began searching one of the huge bag filled with goodies. Hannah was the first one to receive the presents as her bed was placed near the door. She was sitting, with her hands clasp against each other, silently hoping that she got something that she really wanted. Chris took out a box from the bag and gave it to Hannah. She was jumping on her bed when she received the gift. "You got me a Nintendo DS! Thank you Chris!" She hugged him.
Then, he proceeded to the child next to her bed. "Now, for the notorious Sam," He gave him a spy kit. "AWW MAN YOU'RE THE BEST," Sam said. Giving out of the gift took quite a while and the kids got what they wanted. Alyssa was the last one to receive a gift from her brother. "The last gift for the best girl in the world," He passed a huge box to her.
She opened it impatiently. She took out something huge and that was a life-sized bear which had a note attached to it. She read the note, tears slowly forming in her eyes. "Chris, is this real?" She asked. Chris pinched her cheeks. "Of course it's real silly. I'm not joking,"
"What does it say?" Catherine asked. "I'm going to live with Chris. I'm finally going back home," She said in between tears. The other children, including me and the nurse, went towards her and hugged her. "I can't believe this is finally happening," She continued. I sat beside her in which she unexpectedly hugged me. I looked at Chris in which he smiled in return.
Our moment was interrupted when Catherine told us that it was time for them to take a nap before having dinner. Chris and I got the kids ready for their nap. I placed a kiss each on their forehead.
"So, this is what you usually do every Sunday?" I asked him as we walked along the hallway.
He nodded, followed by smiling. That was one of the most sincere smile I ever noticed from him. "I help out at the hospital every now and then,"
I was impressed with his answer. Chris, the guy who gave a bad boy aura is actually an angel indeed. He's way different than Bobby...except for the fact that they look exactly the same. We continued talking until we reached the cafeteria.
When we entered the cafeteria, an old man who was taller than Chris noticed us and walked towards our direction when he hugged Chris. "Chris! You are here!" That old man greeted.
"Yes, I'm here Uncle Griffin," Chris replied.
"Ah, who is this lovely young lady here?" Uncle Griffin turned his attention towards me.
"A friend of mine. Ashlee, this is Uncle Griffin. Uncle Griffin, this is Ashlee," Chris introduced the both of us to each other. I was about to reach out my hand for a handshake when he hugged me, unexpectedly.
"So, you're the girl who Chris has been boasting about for the past few months,"
The second person who knows me before I know them. First, Alyssa and second, Uncle Griffin. I have a feeling that Chris didn't just boast about me to the both of them, but to most of the staff that works here, knowing that he visits the children's hospital every Sunday without fail.
"Really? Wow, he must have been boasting a lot about me to everyone," I joked. Uncle Griffin laughed. "He did,"
"Uncle Griffin!" Chris called out, stopping him from going any further. "Is the kitchen set up?" Uncle griffin nodded. "It's all ready. It's just waiting for the arrival of the couple,"
Chris took my hand in his. He thanked Uncle Griffin, and afterwards entered the kitchen which were only occupied by the both of us, nobody else. "What are going to make?" I asked, curiosity building up in me.
