That night I didn't have any nightmares or a headache in the morning, I fell on to my bed and dozed off. I woke up to the smell of something good coming from outside my room, I immediately got up and opened the door. I followed voices into the spacious kitchen where I had been just last night. A middle aged woman stood next to the stove making us breakfast while Drake and another man that looked just like him sat on tall stools next to the island.

The woman looked up when I walked in, she smiled a warm smile, making me blush and look away.

"Hi, you must be Rain," she said, she motioned for me to sit next to Drake. "I'm Drakes mom, I'm sure he mentioned me, you can call me Shelby. would you like some pancakes?"

"Yes," I said a little too eagerly, "yes, please." I took a seat next to Drake.

"Morning," his deep voice seemed to shock me out of my sleepiness. "Did you sleep okay?"

"Yes, thank you." He nodded.

"Do you know who your parents are?" Drakes dad spoke up, shocking me a little bit. "I used to work at that lab, I made the medicine and fluids they put in you." He looked away, picking at his food.

"No, I don't. Why- why did you leave?" I said nervous that he might try and do something to me. Drake noticed and patted my thigh reassuring me that I was safe.

"I always worked behind the walls, never really knew what they really did with the things I made, until, one of the scientists got killed by one of the subjects and they sent me.. To fill someone with a vial.. They died a few weeks later and I couldn't-" his voice broke, "keep working there knowing what they did to innocent people."

I nodded understanding, he continued, "after awhile, my son here," he patted Drake's back, "said he wanted to help keep the people alive, so he works for them now."

Drake looked down into his lap, "Drake? Is everything ok?" Shelby asked concerned.

"I quit. After I saw Rain in there I couldn't keep doing that."

"Oh." Shelby whispered.

His dad stayed quiet eating his pancakes.

"I'm going out to find a new job later," Drake said. "Could you take Rain shopping for clothes? Have some mother daughter time or whatever."

Shelby's eyes brightened, "yes of course!"

Drake got up, when he passed by me he whispered, "she's always wanted a daughter..."

I smiled, I've always wanted a mother.
