Brought Us Together

Chapter 6

You glanced between the two men after reading the file on the man. He, the man, was a madman who killed many people, including your parents. The organization that kidnapped you and experimented on you, had become your future because of this man. Your heart started racing only by you thinking about him. The organization sold you off to Hydra, you didn't know that, and you escaped when they were transporting you.

FRIDAY's voice boomed around the room, drawing you out of your thoughts, announcing Tony's arrival. Tony arrived with his suit on, claiming that it was faster than a Quinjet.

"It is faster and I can prove that when we get back," he said, putting his hands up. The suit opened up and Tony stepped out of it. "Now, I think I need a thorough explanation about what happened while I was partying." He took a seat and sank down a little, looking up at Steve. He folded his hands in his lap as he tilted his head a little, glancing over at you.

"The man, he's born American and raised in the U.K. He is the one who made me how I am," you explained. "He wasn't alone when he came and kidnapped the others. It wouldn't be easy to take down a former assassin, soldier, a woman who could make you see things that aren't real, and an Android. He must've had watchers everywhere. Inside the building and out. The man's name is Brian Dayton Anderson and the organization he works for is known as The Eye." Tony nodded and pulled out his phone.

"FRIDAY was hacked, right Steve?" Steve nodded once as Tony connected an image to the projector upfront. The image was of Brian, blending into the new SHIELD agents easily. You would never have recognized him. "You're right, [Y/N]. He was inside... and out." Another image appeared of when you were out, having coffee in a small café close by. Right behind you, sat Brian, pretending to read a newspaper. Your anger started to rise and you clutched your arm, digging your nails into your skin, leaving marks. Bucky saw this and put his hand over yours, making you stop.

"We need a plan," Steve said, looking at the image. "He's a madman, dangerous to anyone who comes in his way. We need to think fast before he does anything. We need a flawless plan if we want to get the others back without any serious harm."

"There's never a flawless plan, Steve," you mumbled loudly enough for the men to hear you. You looked up at him. "There's nothing perfect." His eyes darkened and looked sternly at you.

"We have to try."

"I'm not saying not to try. Try as much as you want but if we want them back alive, I have to go by myself."

"Like hell, you will!" Bucky's voice startled you but you quickly composed yourself and glared at him.

"It's the only choice we have Bucky!" Your voice had started to rise with your anger. How could he be so stupid about this? It was four lives against one. It was common sense to save the four and leave one. "It's four against one and I don't see anything wrong with it!"

"I do! We can't give up and turn you in! He'll control you and use yourself against you!"

"I'll like to see him try!" You stood up, towering over Bucky for a moment before he stood up too. He ran a hand through his hair, trying to calm himself.

"[Y/N], what would the others say about this? Do you think they'd let you trade places? Have you that through? How they would feel after knowing what was done to save them? They wouldn't forgive themselves!"

That hit you hard and made you look away. Your mind went blank, not able to formulate anything, and you froze in your position. How would they feel? You know that you wouldn't want them to trade places with you. Not even if it meant you would live. Right now you were drowned in thoughts that screamed at your face. Telling yourself to calm down, you looked at Bucky's eyes again. He was still looking at you with those anger and sadness filled eyes. It pained you to say the words but you said them.

"What other choices do we have?"

Bucky's eyes softened and his tensed shoulders dropped as he started to relax, knowing that you wouldn't do anything irrational for now. He turned to the other men in the room who were watching and listening. Tony had an eyebrow raised, eyes searching for an answer between you, Steve, and Bucky. Steve had gotten used to you and Bucky bickering for each other's safety during missions, that his face remained fixed. Tony threw his hands up when you sat down and he still didn't find an answer he was satisfied with.

"What's going on between you and Buckaroo?" His question was aimed towards you but Bucky cut in and ignored the question in all senses.

"The facility is located in Yukon, Canada. A little north from Dawson City." Tony rolled his eyes but knew the importance of the mission so he didn't interrupt. "It's up north and in the middle of February, it's gonna be cold and snowing so get ready accordingly."

You four started on the plan and decided it would be best to have two more people join the mission. Deciding that you would call Clint and Rhodes, you stepped out to talk to Clint first.

"Hey, [Y/N]." Clint's voice reached your ears.

"Hey Clint," you greeted before getting straight to the point. "Natasha, Sam, Wanda, and Vision have been compromised. We need back up and by we, I mean Steve, Bucky, Tony and I." You heard Clint sigh before he spoke again.

"I'm gonna disappoint my kids." You let a weak chuckle escape your lips.

"Say hi to Laura and the kids for me and apologize too." He laughed softly and told you he would be there in a couple of hours. You hanged up and called Rhodes.

"Hey, um, it's not a great time right now." His voice came out in a whisper. "I'm in a meeting so tell Tony that I'll call back."

Before he could cut the call you quickly said, "The Avengers need you. Come as quick as you can." The line went silent, giving you the impression that he had already hanged up.

"I'll be there in a few hours."
