Scout: 12
Sage:9

Link, Amelia, and Marcus and Donna sat at the dining room table. Sage and Scout were sent with Eric and Maureen while Link and Amelia sat with the news.

"I'd like to make a list, like uh a bucket list." Link rolled his eyes.

"Okay." Amelia held his hand.

"I'd like to have red hair no, I want to have purple hair. Like half red half purple. I'd like to go to one last Mariners game, I want to teach Scout to play guitar." Link said trying not to cry.

"Okay." Amelia sighed.

"I would like to finish reading the kids A Series of Unfortunate Events and re read a couple of my favorite books." Link said.

Amelia and her friends sat there. Taking in every word that Link was saying. Marcus  had a yellow notepad writing down everything he said.

"I want to write like a book or a journal of letters to the kids. For certain moments in their lives. Like Scout first girlfriend and his graduation day. Sage's first heartbreak and her first crush." Link smiled.

"We can do that." Amelia said sadly.

"And their wedding day and first baby. If they ever need to hear my advice or feel me in a way. So they know that I care and I'm here." Link said the tears now falling.

"That's beautiful babe." Amelia said leaning on his shoulder.

"And we aren't telling them I'm dying. Not yet, not until it gets so bad that we can't hide it and have no choice." Link added.

"Fine." Amelia said.

"Oh and I want to renew our wedding vows." Link said before scooting his chair back and walking away.

"That all seems doable." Marcus  said.

"Does it?" Amelia snapped.

"Yes kind of." Marcus  said.

"I'm sorry. I just can't believe this is what our life has come to." Amelia said her head in her hands.

"I hate to ask but why is he so okay with this right now?" Marcus said carefully.

"Because he wants to see the good in this. There is no good in this, he is dying and our kids aren't going to have a dad." Amelia exasperated.

"I hate to admit it but you got to let him just react the way he does. Trying to make him see the bad isn't going to get you through this." Marcus said.

"Thank you and Donna for being here." Amelia said.

"We wouldn't miss this Amelia Bedelia." Marcus  said holding her hand.

"So what part of this should we tackle first?" Amelia said.

"The hair, before it all comes out dye it." Donna  suggested.

"Okay. Umm can someone go get the dye and then we'll do that later today." Amelia asked.

"Yeah, I got this one." Addison said.

-

"Hey babe." Amelia said coming into the living room.

"Hey." Link smiled.

"Sage, Scout how would you guys like to dye Daddy's hair?" Amelia asked.

"REALLY." Scout and Sage yelled.

"Yeah really." Amelia laughed.

"Let's do it." Link smiled.

Addison and Charlotte set up chairs in the backyard, Link had a trash bag draped over him and the kids had gloves.

Amelia mixed the bright red and electric purple hair dye and handed the kids the bowls.

"Tell me when it's happening." Link laughed.

"It's not happening"Amelia joked.

"Yes it is." Sage giggled.

Scout smeared the bright red and thick dye into half of Link's head. Sage took her tools and coated the other half in electric purple.

"MAMA I want to do the ends of mine." Sage said.

"Me too." Scout added.

"I don't." Amelia hesitated.

Then she thought, with the news they eventually had to tell the kids, why not? After all ignorance is bliss.

"Okay but Daddy gets to yours." Amelia laughed.

"Deal." Sage said.

Scout and Sage removed their gloves and threw on trash bags. Sage went first sitting in front of Link and he took the purple dye and brushed it into the ends of Sage's long, light brown hair.

"Okay Sagey. You gotta let that sit for a while." Link said.

"You got it Daddy ." Sage said giving him a big smile and two thumbs up.

Scout went next and got the tips of his hair done in red. Link brushed the very tips of his sandy blonde hair with the bright red mixture.

"I look cool daddy." Scout smiled.

"You do." Link smiled.

"What do you think babe?" Link asked.

"You guys look like a rock band." Amelia said.

"Heck yeah we do." Sage said.

Link walked over and hugged Amelia closely. He admired how she was willing to let the kids do that because it made them happy.

"Hey, that's one item we managed to check off." Link said.

"Yeah." Amelia smiled.

"Now we wait for a while." Link laughed.
