The sky screamed in rage as lightning and thunder struck the world. Rain fell and hit people like knives as if the gods were trying to punish them for a crime they had committed. Or at least that's what it felt like for Adrien. As every drop hit him he couldn't help but feel the sting of pain, that burning feeling. His feet slid across the floor, the rain soaking him as he chased after the two lunatic adults who he would make sure would lose their jobs by the end of the day. His perfect blonde hair was ruined as the rain came down harder.

His heartbeat was like a melody of death as he watched Lila catch up with Marinette. Marinette who the world seemed to be against. Marinette. His precious Princess who showed compassion and kindness for all including her foes. His light in the never-ending darkness that people call life. Making everyone feel like they had a place, whenever he saw that smile he could always feel the sun on his face, the breeze and the soft feeling of being in a field, no city, no sound, just him, and the feeling of freedom.

Whenever he was around Marinette he felt as if the world was gone, it would be just him and her in a flowery field as the soft breeze would flow through his untamed hair. He wouldn't be wearing any designer clothes and instead could imagine himself in a loose white shirt and long pants. Marinette would be by the long old oak tree, her sundress revealing her freckled shoulders that he imagined would be on her shoulders. She would turn and run to him, he would catch her and carry her bridal style back to their home.

It was ironic now that he thought about it.

He had always dreamed of living on a tropical island with Ladybug. But now he only dreamed of living on a countryside beach where he and Marinette would spend their days. He and Marinette would have a hamster and their children would spend their days playing on the beach, gathering seashells and sand dollars. Marinette would decorate their home and he would tell his children stories. Then as night would fall he would tuck his kids in and then walk out onto the porch and kiss his beloved wife. Then he would fall asleep under the stars with Marinette in his arms.

Gosh now that he thought about it.

It was embarrassing.

Ever since Miracle Queen, he and Ladybug had been...well in an awkward state. He wasn't exactly in love with her anymore, sure she would take his breath away sometimes and he even had breathlessly watched her go against Miracle Queen like there was nothing holding her back. But she had made it clear she didn't have feelings for him, and he learned that it was best to give his love to someone who would love him back.

Maybe it was that feeling that he felt when he learned that Marinette would do anything for her friends, maybe it was the growing jealous feeling when he saw Luka get a cheek kiss from Marinette. Or maybe it was how he saw her race after him in New York in the rain soaking her and revealing her beautiful glory. He wished he had stopped the car. He wished he had gotten out and told her how touched he was for her to do that. He wished he had kissed her.

When they had gotten back from New York he had isolated himself from Ladybug and even though she was the new Guardian and had been trying to seek him out, he had ignored her. Mostly focusing on Marinette, his Princess, when she had gotten sick after a week of their return from New York he was absolutely drenched in worry. He had been dying to see only to hear she had gotten sick. It took everything in him not to run to her house and comfort his sick Princess, to be at her every need.

He already misses the warmth, he prays this is a bad dream he's going to wake up from.

But now... he knows that it is not a dream and that Marinette really was gone.

The light that had flashed in his eyes slowly faded and Adrien soon felt the world fade. Where Marinette was supposed to be standing was an empty space and Adrien felt his heart shatter. Where was she? Where did she go?! He flung his body down the stairs and went over to where Marinette was supposed to be standing.
