A set of dreamy brown eyes met her almost instantly as her last classmate left the room. It felt strange, in some way, to have all of Cheryl's attention suddenly cast upon her. It was just the two of them alone and Toni quickly became painfully aware of her disheveled appearance. The day hadn't exactly gone as she planned, she'd overslept which meant she'd been late to the first half of Cheryl's class.
Something that earned her a questionable glance from the redhead. But she hadn't raised any questions as Toni crept towards the back of the room finding a seat.
"Was it a late night?" The question filled the silence that hung between them, and Toni laughed softly.
"Not the late night that you're probably imagining, but yeah..."
The truth was, Toni had barely slept last night, the itching thought of being alone with Cheryl the next day was enough to keep her mind running for hours. A surprising wave of disappointment washed over her as Cheryl's attention fell to the papers scattered out before her, longing for those brown eyes to read her soul once more.
"I've set up my laptop for you, let me know if you need any assistance with anything." The professor spoke out, her eyes flickering towards the pink haired girl as she nervously approached her desk. Toni could have swore she caught an amused smirk on Cheryl's lips.
Toni stared at the blank screen before her, only having written a single sentence. She poised her hands over her keyboard, finding herself at a loss of what to write, silently wishing for her assignment to magically complete itself. It was the first time she'd been stuck on a project in a long time.
Part of the reason might've been the fact she was sitting barely five feet away from the most beautiful woman on the planet. She felt drawn to her like a magnet, struggling to fight against the pull of energy that was luring her in. A frustrated sigh fell from her lips. The sound caused Cheryl to glance up at her momentarily, offering her an encouraging smile.
Whilst Cheryl's eyes didn't linger, Toni's remained fixed on the woman. Just a simple smile had set off the butterflies in her chest, the brunette swallowed watching as Cheryl brushed her hair behind her ear. It had only been fifteen minutes and she'd already found herself missing the sound of the redhead's voice.
"You left pretty fast on tuesday." Toni practically blurted out, she'd tried to be angry that Cheryl didn't ask if she was okay, but that failed the second she saw her.
The sudden statement appeared to surprise her professor, Cheryl shifting her position in her seat. Tapping her marker anxiously against a current paper she'd been marking.
"Yeah, uh, I had somewhere to be. I thought I'd drop you your book quickly beforehand." Cheryl's response was a whole load of bullshit but Toni just nodded, returning to her work only to hear the woman continue, "I meant to ask you if you were okay when you fell - but I didn't think you'd want the embarrassment of your teacher lifting you up."
Toni felt her cheeks immediately flush scarlet at the memory, "That wasn't my proudest moment."
Cheryl could only smile at that, "It happens to the best of us."
"I should apologise for what you overheard Donna saying, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." Toni hated how much she found herself blushing, but she quickly noticed a similar splash of colour on her professors cheeks.
"It was none of my business. I should be apologising for intruding on whatever that was."
Toni's eyes narrowed for a second, hearing the callous tone in her voice. For a moment, Toni pondered on whether her professor was jealous. The way her lips were pressed together, her cheeks still tinted pink and her focus set on her work. The thought sparked excitement somewhere within the pink haired girl.
