"Okay, what's the problem?" Chiaki asked Nagito, pulling him away from the cafeteria and into a small, deserted corridor, leaving Hajime and Kazuichi alone at the table. As they left, Hajime shot them both a glare, assuming they left so he could tell Kazuichi the bad news about Sonia. While it wasn't their main intention, it definitely was a plus. Maybe he should buy Hajime some orange juice later to make up for it.
He shook his head, trying to focus on the problem at hand. "You know! I wanna invite Hajime to prom - I... after how horrible I treated him though, I'm not really sure I deserve something as amazing as-"
Chiaki whacked him gently on the back of his head. "Seriously Nagito, you need to work on your self-confidence. All that stuff? It's in the past, okay? If you really feel bad about it, then work on yourself now, and spend time showing Hajime that your opinion has changed, and that you do really care about him."
"The... past?" Nagito muttered, glancing back into the cafeteria, and spotting Hajime trying to comfort a bawling Kazuichi. He wasn't exactly doing well. Nagito's cheeks heated up, whipping back into the corridor before Hajime spotted him. "I... I don't know. Maybe it's better if I don't say anything at all-"
Chiaki whacked him again. "For Pikachu's sake! That's literally the opposite of what I've been saying! Nagito, seriously."
Nagito turned to look her in the eyes, his eyes wide and spiralling, hair attaching to his neck, and arms clutching at his sides. "But he clearly wouldn't want to spend time with scum like me - especially not in any romantic form! I'd probably make him cry just by asking him in the first place, hahahaha!"
Chiaki sighed, pressing her hand to her forehead as Nagito continued to laugh. "I'm sure he would cry Nagito - but from happiness, not from sadness." When Nagito showed no signs of stopping his laughter, Chiaki hit him again, cutting him off. "Seriously Nagito, I'm sure Hajime would love to go to Prom with you. And if he didn't then he'd be missing out."
Nagito's laughter stopped, but he didn't sound any happier. He turned his head away from Chiaki's piercing gaze. "Maybe I should ask him to go but just as friends... that way I can pretend we're on a date, and he wouldn't have to suffer with the knowledge that that's what I see it as. I know it'd be a bit selfish, but that way Hajime wouldn't have to suffer with me for so long."
He lifted his head up, planning to smile at Chiaki as his plan was confirmed, but her angry glare made him flinch and take a step back. "C - Chiaki? What's wrong?"
Chiaki growled, stomping to Nagito, who squeaked in fear and backed away from the threatening gremlin. Even at such a small size, she looked incredibly deadly. Once Chiaki reached him, she grabbed a fistful of his shirt, and pulled him closer, eyes glinting angrily. "Listen here." She said, "You will ask Hajime to the prom as your date. No excuses, no exceptions. You will go together. It will be a MAGICAL EVENING. SOUND GOOD?!"
"Y - Yeah, sounds great! Amazing even!" Nagito yelled, and she released his shirt. "Why does it feel like I'm being mugged?" He muttered under his breath, and quickly pretended he said nothing when her eyes narrowed in his direction once again. "T - Thanks for... helping me?"
"You're welcome!" Chiaki responded with a grin, before pushing Nagito back towards the cafeteria. As they approached, they noticed Kazuichi still looked incredibly upset, with Hajime getting more frantic as time went on, upset that he couldn't calm him down. Nagito put his hand on Hajime's in comfort, and Chiaki went over to Kazuichi to try and calm him down.
"Kazuichi this is why I didn't try to set you and Sonia together. Because I knew she was going to end up with Gundham, I saw the way they both look at each other." Chiaki said, sighing. When Kazuichi just seemed to get worse and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Look, if you want I'll go to the prom with you? Just as a friend thing."
"R - really?" Kazuichi asked, lifting his head up and turning it to meet her eyes. "You'd do that for me?"
"Of course!" Chiaki said with a wink. "Who knows, maybe Sonia will see us together and get jealous, huh?" She smiled, knowing she cheered up Kazuichi, and sat down beside him. She gave Hajime a smile and Nagito a glare, gesturing to Hajime with her eyes, but making sure she did so only when Nagito was paying attention to her.
Nagito sighed and stood up. While he appreciated her insistence, and knew becoming upset at her persistence was incredibly selfish of trash like himself, he-
Chiaki glared at him again, and he started backpedalling the words in his head. How did she know he was talking about himself in that way again? Was she psychic? Maybe playing so many competitive and cooperative games just gave her crazy intuition? A - Anyway...
"I have to uhh... go to the bathroom." He said, needing some time to himself. Besides - he couldn't ask Hajime to prom right now! In the cafeteria in the middle of a school day! It needs to be more special than that. Chiaki allowed him to go, and Hajime and Kazuichi glanced at him concerned expressions in their eyes - especially Hajime's - as Nagito practically sprinted out of the cafeteria.
He entered the bathroom and walked forward to lean on one of the walls, various thoughts flying through his head. Could he... actually do this? And if he did - how would he do this? He had to find the right place, show Hajime that he really does care about him and... oh, it was all so confusing!
He felt a buzz in his pocket and pulled out his phone.
It doesn't matter how or when or where - what matters is that you're honest.
Fricking Chiaki.
She must be psychic.
Nagito send a 'thanks' in reply, before putting his phone back in his pocket and heading back to the cafeteria. As he approached, Hajime glanced up at him, his expression turning into a happy one once he spotted Nagito. Sometimes Nagito wondered how it was only him who could produce that joyful expression on Hajime's face, but he didn't want to question it. He enjoyed being able to do this one thing that no one else seemed to do. He felt more special that way.
"H - Hajime..." He started. He wasn't going to ask Hajime to prom yet, but... maybe later that day? That night? Yeah, that'd be good, right? Chiaki wouldn't see that as dodging asking Hajime to prom right? He could only hope.
"What is it Nagito? Are you okay?" Hajime asked, concern in his eyes. That concern made Nagito blush, feeling warm at the knowledge that someone else cares about him. Hajime... Hajime's amazing.
Oh wait, he's in the middle of a conversation.
"Y - Yeah, I'm fine!" Nagito stammered, glaring at Chiaki and Kazuichi who were bawling with laughter. He waited until they calmed down, pointedly glaring at them the entire time before he continued. "I... I need to see you tonight. It's important."
"Oh? O - Okay?" Hajime responded, looking confused. Nagito could understand why - he'd never said anything like this to anyone before... but Hajime brought out the weird, the crazy... and the best in him. Hajime deserved him to try his hardest to make this confession special.
And he was damn well going to try his best to make this confession as thoughtful, meaningful, and honest as he could.
He'd go all out for Hajime.
Always.
Hi everyone! Hope you enjoyed the new chapter!
There's probably maximum three more chapters left - most likely two chapters left? It's shocking how close to completion this story is, I thought it'd go on for a bit longer than around 15 chapters haha XD
Offhandedly, I wanted to mention that I've started a new book! Sadly it's not Komahina, although I almost certainly will return to Komahina at least one more time (I REALLY wanna write a despair disease based story for them both), but this story I'm writing isn't Komahina - it's Saiouma! Or Oumasai. Whichever you prefer XD
This Saiouma/oumasai fanfiction is called The Final Truth, and it's got - what I believe to be - a fairly unique premise? Shuichi finds Kokichi's diary. Yes, in this fanfic, Kokichi wrote a diary. If you guys decide to check it out then I hope you enjoy it.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon!
But for now...
Peachy out! 😊
