Nagito sat down besides Hajime, on his couch. This was it. He was going to tell Hajime... everything. His hands shook, he felt terrified. What if Hajime hated him now? What if his reasoning wasn't enough for Hajime, and he never forgave him - not that he deserved Hajime's forgiveness...

Either way, he couldn't leave things as they are. He had to at least fight for Hajime with all he had - and if he wanted to fight for Hajime, then Hajime had to know the truth.

"You... you don't have to explain... if you really don't want to." Hajime muttered to Nagito, placing a hand on Nagito's shoulder comfortingly. "Honestly. It's okay." Nagito shook his head in refusal. No, it wouldn't be okay to leave things as they were - even if Hajime did believe he had a reason for hating the Reserve Course, even if Hajime did forgive him, Nagito would know he didn't do all he could... if he didn't tell the truth now.

And he'd never be able to forgive himself for something like that.

"Well... I'm sure you heard about my parents..." He glanced at Hajime, who shook his head. "No? Right, you're not really from around here... okay, so I used to live with my parents - my mum and dad. We were a nice family, but my luck cycle eventually... eventually... became their undoing. We were on a plane, and it..." He trailed off, his mind unwillingly transporting him back to the past.

He sighed and turned his head away from Hajime's concerned eyes. "Never mind. That doesn't really matter." Hajime nodded in response, and remained silent, as Nagito took a minute to gather his thoughts. After a minute, he took a deep breath and continued.

"Anyway, for a while, I was homeless. It wasn't long - just a month or so. After a month, I found this scratch card in some snow, and it ended up being the winning ticket for a lot of money - so much I could afford a small but quaint house and have enough left over to maintain the house for a few years."

Nagito let out a small chuckle. "Of course that level of luck naturally attracted those from Hope's Peak, and I was offered a scholarship there. I took it after some persuading, I wasn't sure at first whether I should go or not." He glanced back towards Hajime, cheeks slightly red. "It's... been fun so far."

He shook his head, trying to get back on track. "Anyways, the point I've been trying to make about the Reserve Course Hajime, is that they're incredibly ruthless and awful. During that month I was homeless, I spent most of my time in the centre of town, scouring for money or begging others for money so I could survive. Most of the people in the town were nice, but..."

"But...?" Hajime offered, trying to help Nagito explain. He was surprised to see tears forming in Nagito's eyes as he remembered his past.

"Sometimes instead of a kind soul, I'd stumble into... someone from the Reserve Course." Hajime stiffened, blood turning cold, as Nagito continued his explanation. "They... were never kind to me. I was just a kid back then, I had no way of defending myself - they knew that. And yet, they..."

"They... what?" Hajime whispered, the hand on Nagito's shoulder tightening, as if he really didn't want to know. His tone made Nagito pause. Should he really tell Hajime this? What if he takes it the wrong way, or blames himself, or gets upset? He didn't want to upset-

"Nagito?" Hajime removed his hand from Nagito's shoulder, using it to cup Nagito's chin, and turn his face to lock eyes with Hajime. "Nagito, I don't know what you're thinking, but... I want to hear you. I want to help you. Please, tell me what's going on - what's happened. I'll listen to you." He turned his head away and released Nagito's chin. "Do you trust me?"

There was no question about it. "Yes."

"Then trust me when I say that no matter what happens, I'll still be here." Hajime responded, lifting his head back up to meet Nagito's fearful expression with his own confident one. "I trust you, I trust you have a reason for your actions - and I trust that you care about me as much as you say you do. Please, trust me. Have faith in me."
