When they entered the Gryffindor Common Room later that night, the party had already been going for some time. Music was blasting loudly but was probably being contained by a lot of Silencing Charms. There were some students from other houses Lyra recognized. Only the fourth years and older were invited to the party to prevent the younger students from drinking alcohol. Several glowing orbs were floating through the Common Room illuminating it with their vibrant colours.
The group of friends had quite a lot to drink already and noisily stumbled down the stairs. Seventh-year Prefect Addison Dawlish called for everyone's attention using her wand to amplify her voice.
"Hi everyone!" She smiled broadly at the other students. "Welcome back to another school year at Hogwarts. It is an absolute pleasure to see you all again. As usual, the lights are low, the punch is spiked and the hormones are raging."
Several students cheered loudly, earning giggles from Addison.
"Just like last year, Poppy, the blessing from Godric Gryffindor himself, knows about our little get-together. Let's make sure nobody has to visit her tonight." Addison clenched her hand into a fist and tapped her chest twice in a sign of adoration for the Mediwitch. "Take care everyone but most importantly, have fun!"
Addison stepped down from the table she stood on and quickly disappeared in the crowd of dancing teenagers.
"Let's claim a couch!" Sirius shouted over the music. "There's one free near the fireplace."
Lyra had troubles making her way through the crowd as she tried following her friends. A second later she felt someone's warm hand on the small of her back. She did not need to look at the person guiding her to the other side of the room because she had known immediately that is was Sirius helping her along. She thanked him with a smile. When they sat on the couches, Lyra found herself squeezed between Sirius and Marlene. James and Peter announced that they were getting drinks for everyone and made their way over to the table that housed a big bowl filled with some sort of alcoholic beverage. When Lyra had settled, her eyes landed on a girl sitting alone on one of the other couches. She had looked at the group of friends as they approached the couches near her but had not spoken to them. Lyra did not recognise the girl, who seemed to be around their age, which she found very odd.
Without any hesitation, she got up from the couch and walked over to the girl. Mary had looked at her questioningly.
"Hi there, I'm Lyra Rosier." Lyra presented her hand to the girl. "I don't think I've seen you at Hogwarts before. Are you new?"
The other girl quickly got on her feet and shook Lyra's hand with a smile of relief on her face.
"Lovely to meet you Lyra, my name is Dorcas Meadowes." She took Lyra's hand and shook it violently. "Yes, I'm new here. I've transferred from Castelobruxo."
"Good to have you here." Lyra smiled at the pretty curly-haired girl. "I'd love to introduce you to my friends."
"That would be perfect." Dorcas sighed. "It's hard making friends when everyone knows each other already."
Lyra motioned Dorcas to follow her to her friends on the other couches.
"Marauders, listen up!" Lyra chimed at the group. "This is Dorcas, she is new here after transferring from Brazil."
Everyone introduced themselves to Dorcas and they settled down. James was balancing three cups in his hands and made his way over to Lyra and Dorcas.
"Here!" He handed the girls their drinks. "I brought an extra one when I saw Lyra talking to you. I knew she would be inviting you over."
They both grabbed a cup and toasted with James. Everyone gathered around Dorcas as she told some more about herself.
