"Mother, father, I am home!" Lyra shouted when she opened the front door.
She walked in, carrying the bags with all of her new schoolbooks and the bag with her new dress. She closed the door with her foot, not wanting to put her bags down. She did not want to call for any of the house-elves to pick them up for her.
She heard a soft reply coming from the living room so she made her way over there. The doors were open so she made her way inside.
Her mother was seated in a chair, reading The Daily Prophet whilst carefully drinking her tea. Lyra approached her and sat down on one of the couches.
Mrs Rosier was about to comment on her posture when her daughter corrected herself. She nodded approvingly.
"How was your day, mother?" Lyra tried to initiate a conversation.
"My day was well, thank you for asking." Her mother replied with a thin smile.
The way she was seated, she could be on the cover of Purity Weekly. She had impeccable posture. With one hand she held her book, which was on her lap and with the other, she held her teacup.
"I see you went to get your schoolbooks, dear." Mrs Rosier noticed. "Did you go alone?"
"No mother, I did not. I went with Sirius." Lyra sighed. "We did happen to stumble across some friends of ours at Rosa Lee's."
Mrs Rosier had nodded approvingly of her daughter's choice of company but scrunched her nose when she had told her about her other friends.
"You know I approve of the boy, but I don't appreciate your other company." Mrs Rosier looked at her daughter. "You don't want to be seen, talking to Mudbloods, dear."
"I know you don't like them, but they're my friends and I enjoy spending time with them." Lyra countered.
She was about to go to her room when her mother noticed the bag from Twillfitt and Tattings.
"Oh, Lyra, you went to Twillfitt and Tattings?" She smiled. "What did you get?"
"Well, since I was 'mysteriously' accepted into The Pureblood Association, I needed a new dress," Lyra said, sarcasm thick in her voice.
For just a mere second, regret seemed to flash across Mrs Rosier's face.
"I don't want to talk about it, mother." Lyra sighed.
Lyra took her dress out of the bag and with a wave of her mother's wand, she had it on.
"Spin for me, please," Mrs Rosier asked of her daughter.
Lyra twirled around, holding her dress up with one hand.
"I love the design, but I'm not quite convinced that I like the colour." Mrs Rosier looked Lyra up and down. "Let me try something."
Without waiting for her daughter's consent, she flicked her wand. The dress turned emerald green.
Lyra felt annoyed. Her mother had acted without her permission again. She did have to admit that the dress was also lovely in green.
"It is also very pretty in this colour." She stroked the material. "But I think I prefer it in burgundy."
"How about, you wear the dress in green." Her mother nodded. "I will let you take some of my jewellery with you to Hogwarts."
Lyra knew exactly what her mother was talking about. There were certain pieces of jewellery that Lyra had always admired. Her mother had never let her wear them.
"Deal," Lyra said immediately.
"I know you don't want to be a part of The Association, but it will do you good." Mrs Rosier walked towards her daughter and put a hand on her shoulder. "Please, do it for me."
