Evan had approached his younger sister with his friends. As they strutted towards her, he saw fear flashing through her eyes for a second before she composed herself.
Lyra smiled warmly at her brother, only just noticing him for the first time that evening. Evan went in for a hug and took Lyra in a warm embrace. The siblings were friends foremost and had always been close. As Evan started to lean back, Lyra quickly shuffled with his tie to pull it straight. She gave him a quick wink before she let him go.
"Well, lads, this is Lyra, my younger sister." Evan stood beside Lyra and placed a hand on her shoulder. "This is her first time here, so play nice."
Lyra pretended to giggle at the others who had approached her and curtsied slightly.
"Nice to meet all of you," Lyra looked at every one of them. "Evan has told me a lot about his friends."
"Only good things, I hope," A tall handsome boy flashed her a bright smile. He extended his hand towards her. "Benjamin Macmillan, pleased to meet you, finally."
Lyra cringed slightly when she felt the boy press a sloppy kiss to the back of her hand.
"Yes, a pleasure indeed." Lyra swiftly pulled her hand back.
She felt Sirius and Regulus stand closer behind her.
"Don't mind pervy Benjy, over there doll," a boy with a darker complexion gave her a friendly nod. "Macaulay Shafiq, please call me Mac."
"Nice to meet you, Mac," Lyra smiled genuinely at him. "I've heard great things about you."
Mac smiled proudly and nudged Benjamin in his side.
"Always leaving the best for last, don't you?" A stoic boy with curly hair scrunched his nose. "My name is Anthony Travers and this beauty is Aurelia Fawley, my girlfriend."
Lyra cocked her head to the side as she finally noticed a small witch standing slightly behind Anthony. She nodded slightly, barely noticeable from where she stood.
"Great to meet both of you too," Lyra expressed her greetings to the last of Evan's friends.
They spoke for a while before Sirius, Regulus and Lyra had excused themselves to get some drinks. Sirius was about to hand Lyra a drink when she shook her head.
"I'm not drinking tonight," she whispered at him. "I want to keep my head clear."
Sirius nodded in approval before downing the drink in an instance. Lyra tutted disapprovingly before getting an empty glass and filling it with a swift 'Aguamenti'.
Sirius grabbed himself a butterbeer and Regulus took a tumbler with some high-quality firewhiskey.
They strutted through the room, quietly observing the others as they contemplated on who they wanted to talk to.
Their gazes landed on the Black sisters chatting with Lucius and some other boys Lyra did not recognize. Sirius offered Lyra his arm, which she gladly took, and they walked towards them.
Narcissa smiled warmly at Lyra and her cousins as they joined them.
"Ah, Lyra, you look absolutely ravishing tonight," Lucius grinned wickedly. "Good to have you three here."
"Thanks for having us, Lucius," Lyra spoke softly.
Lucius nodded in approval.
"Let me introduce you to Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange, Florian Rowle and Dominic Flint."
Lyra curtsied again and smiled at the boys. She had bee introduced to so many new people tonight and struggled to remember all their names.
They stood with them for a while and started talking about the new school year. Everything seemed to be going quite well until Lyra lost her balance.
