There are two of you, therefore co-writing should be half the work. Not true. However there are ways take advantage of having two writers. Here are 7 tips to help you succeed:

1) Use each other’s strengths. If Emily is good at making covers, and Joseph is great at writing blurbs, get Emily to make the cover and Joseph to write the blurb. For this reason, it is a good idea to get to know each other’s strengths.

2) Get to know each other. The better you know each other, the better you can write together. The better you can write together, the better your writing will be. (See Chapter 2)

3) Edit each other’s work. There are two of you! That means you practically have a free editor. After polishing your own work, get your partner to read it over for errors as well.

4) Music. Random tip. If you discover you like similar music, create a playlist together. You can listen to it as you are doing things such as brainstorming to get into the same mood.

5) If something’s not working, change it. If you are having trouble coming up with the perfect ending, maybe you have to change the storyline. Being adaptable is one of the best qualities in a co-writer.

6) Clear communication. It’s how you talk, you plan, and you write. You need to be able to communicate. (See Chapter 3)

7) Respect each other. The more you respect your partner, the smoother this process will go. Don’t criticize your partner, help them improve. Try to not be jealous of their strengths, instead admire them and be glad you can use them for your novel.
