"Are you really going to tell them everything?" Elsa asked, the minute we arrived in a hidden room I had discovered a few years ago.
I grimaced. "I'm not sure."
"Well," Elsa scrunched her nose in thought, "I think... maybe you should."
"Why?"
"Speaking from experience, hiding things from people you care about can be miserable."
"Yeah, I know. Also, from experience."
"They all really care about you. You guys are a bit like family, at least from my perspective. It just feels better to tell people about stuff. You know, it's like when you're carrying something heavy, it's easier to share the load."
"Well, I guess. But anyways, we have more important things to talk about."
"Yes. Speaking of which, do you know if Pitch has any religious followers?"
"Well, a really, really long time ago there were a few scattered cults. They had some temples and performed a lot of weird sacrifices."
"Temples... like the one Merida discovered?"
"No... nothing that big. He wasn't a very popular god. Clearly."
"That's odd."
"How do you know all this stuff? Do all Elites know?"
"No. Okay, you see, I'm immortal. And kind of old. I was alive during the Black War."
"Holy crap."
"Yeah."
"Wait. You know how priests and priestesses usually have a little moon crest on their robes?"
"Yes."
"Have you ever seen one that's blood red?"
"Uh... no."
Elsa tapped her foot on the wooden floor. "The Elites don't know about the red moon crest and they've never seen a temple like the one from earlier."
"Back up. How did you find out about a red moon crest?"
Elsa cringed. "It's a long story, but I got kidnapped by a priest named Kynes. He took me to another dark, creepy building and was about to do some stuff to me, but I escaped. Oh, and Pitch was there too."
"What?" I gawked at her.
"Yeah, yeah. I know. It's crazy. But..."
Dread grew in the pit of my stomach. "Do you think it's possible that there's been a secret cult that supports Pitch? One that the Elites never knew about this whole time?"
Elsa's grave nod was all the confirmation that I needed.
