Kiyoko held her breath as he flipped the switch. The mismatch of old and charred appliances buzzed, a small spark shooting out at them. Thankfully, the whole thing didn't blow up this time. Kiyoko was starting to get why none of these devices were salvaged. They were all temperamental at best. The device sat in the only bit of sun in the whole basement- they might have blown a hole in the roof to get it- but it was worth it. Luckily no one heard them and now, it was working.
"Go on," Yumiko whispered, pushing Kiyoko forward. "What do you want to say?"
Kiyoko froze. She didn't anticipate that they would actually succeed. She had no idea what to say. Thankfully, she didn't need to. Looking at the letter, she saw a footnote. "To the world, my name is Kiyoko Shimizu, I used to be the manager of the Karasuno High school volleyball club. I am broadcasting this from inside the walls because I need your help. I don't know how many of us are still alive and I don't know how many will be when you hear this but please, we need your help. There are survivors in the Miyagi walls, we have little food and littler water. The infected run the street. Please, I am begging you, give us the help we need and save us. Or our blood will be on your hand for the rest of eternity."
Yumiko pressed a button, smiling proudly at the work. "There, that should keep repeating itself every day when the sun is shining down on it." Yumiko turned around, picking up a much smaller device. "Keep it in the sun and it will stay charged. When the reply comes, it should be on this channel."
"Thank you." Kiyoko gently took the hand made radio, throwing it over her shoulder. "For everything."
Yumiko smiled, brushing a strand of hair out of Kiyoko's face. "Save the world for me, sweetheart."
"Down there! That's where the signal is coming from."
Kiyoko paled as the guards came rushing into the basement. She jumped up, she needed to protect the broadcasting tower but she couldn't die yet. She still needed to find Yachi.
"Kiyoko, there is a lift in the corner, go there and use my pass. If your friends are still here they will be in lab 6," Yumiko pushed Kiyoko away, forcing the pass into the younger's hand.
"What? What about you?!"
Yumiko closed her eyes, a content expression on her face. "I'm going to bring down the roof. You better not be here when I do. If all goes well, I'll see you soon. If all goes wrong, I'll still see you soon."
Kiyoko couldn't help but Akakana and Misaki. She should have done more to save them and she knows she should do more to save Yumiko; but that smile, that sad look in her eyes; this was Yumiko's moment and Kiyoko couldn't take it away from her. Kiyoko didn't know why she ran the other way. She didn't know why she didn't do something but the rumbling in the ground told her that there wasn't anything she could now.
"I'm sorry."
Narita groaned. His head was splitting and his wrist was hurting. What happened? Fluttering open his eyes, he looked around the too white space. The place was too bright for his headache. Narita tried to rub his forehead but he found himself unable to move. Snapping his head to the side, Narita's eyes landed on the metal chains that kept him in place.
Narita ignored the pounding in his head as he searched for the others. Everyone was tied up in matching chains, their arms spread out. Narita searched for Yamaguchi who was still limp at the back. At least his head was still in one piece and he wasn't trying to kill them yet.
"Yachi," Narita hissed, the smaller girl stirring from her spot. "Yachi!"
"Narita?"
"Are you okay?"
"My head hurts." Yachi tried to move but found herself in the same position "Narita?! Wha-what's going on?!"
"I don't know but I need you to stay calm. See if you can wake the others while I see if there is a way out of these chains." Narita twisted his wrist so he could get a better look at the lock. Yachi went about hissing wake up calls to the others, slowly forcing them awake.
"Don't bother," Ayao announced, walking in with a smirk on her face. "You're not getting out anytime soon," Ayao smirked, taking long strides towards Narita.
"What are you planning to do to us?" Narita wasn't as brave as Yamaguchi, he wasn't the type to bite someone just because he couldn't punch them. Narita wasn't as smart as the first-year either, he hadn't worked out that the scientist was evil. However, Narita was going to fight back the best he could.
"Oh, I wouldn't worry about it, you won't be alive long enough to understand the results." Ayao sprayed out a small amount of the liquid, making sure there were no air bubbles inside the needle before forcing Narita's head to the side. She smirked as she found the vein and injected the liquid. "I will warn you though, we've never tested the effects of pure Kodvre-12 on someone before. For all we know, you will be dead by the end of the hour. It could do nothing. And I for one, can't wait to watch it happen."
Ayao turned around, grabbing a different syringe with a smirk. "Now, this is a slightly watered down solution so you probably won't turn as quickly as your friend. Each of you will get a slightly more diluted solution until it is barely noticeable. We want to see the dilution this thing needs to be at before your immune system can fight it off." Ayao walked up to Yachi, she trailed her fingers up Yachi's arm, smirking as she forced the young girl's head to the side.
"I wouldn't do that if I was you."
Ayao froze. She spun around for the source of the voice. "Who are you?! How are you- you're in the system, aren't you?! You just like him!" Ayao slammed down the syringe, charging out of the door.
Yachi let out a sigh of relief. That voice was Kenma's. She didn't know how he was here or why, but as long as he kept her alive, she wasn't going to question it.
