It had been a week since I'd last heard from Benedict, and I wanted to hear his voice again, even if it was just in an interview.
I missed him. Life was dull without him.
But I'd wanted this dullness. I'd said so. I had pushed him away because he brought the media with him wherever we went and I didn't like it.
But I hadn't really thought about the other side. How it affected him. Here I was hating the few months I'd been in the spotlight, but what about Benedict? He got that all the time.
I instantly felt guilty. Benedict always talked to me about how he wished he could have some privacy and enjoy his normal life... I had been his normal life.
Thinking about that made me start crying and I almost didn't hear my phone go off.
I picked it up and answered it, my eyes too teary to read the screen. "Hello?" My voice cracked as I spoke.
"Ana, it's Benedict." The deep, beautiful voice on the other end of the phone said. I would've known it was him even if he didn't say it.
"Benedict... Hi." I sat up, wiping my eyes. I didn't need him knowing that I was crying about him again.
"I don't have much time to talk, but I'm leaving for the United States tomorrow, for the Oscars. I still have a +1 ticket... If you want it."
"You're asking me if I want to go to the Oscars with you, even though I've broken up with you?" I was confused.
"Yes. I know, it sounds bad, but I can explain..." I heard him sigh. "I haven't told anyone that we broke up. As far as anyone, even my publicist, is concerned, we're still a happy couple. If you went with me..."
"I'd be helping myself escape more paparazzi and bad blood from your fans." I finished his sentence.
"Exactly. Please Ana. Think about it. It'll give us some more time to talk as well." The pain in his voice made me want to die, so of course I said yes.
"If you pay for everything. I'm unemployed right now and an expensive trip to America will be the end of me."
"I'll do it. I'll do anything you want." Benedict sounded so eager to bring me along, and I just sounded like it was a burden. Hell, he was going to pay for me to go to the Oscars in America!
"Can you pick me up too? I need a ride to the airport." I said quietly.
"Yes, I'll be there at 9am sharp. I'll see you then?"
I nodded even though I knew he couldn't see me. "Yeah, see you then. Thanks Benedict."
I hung up the phone, leaning back and sighing deeply before I went to go pack for my trip.
What the hell was I doing?
