At work one day, the news channel was on. It was pretty slow work-wise, so I kept my eye on it, looking for any important stories.
Just as I handed a customer their drink, a story about the Oscar nominations came on.
My ears perked up and my eyes were glued to the screen. Maybe Benedict would be nominated.
And he was.
I jumped up and down, squealing, and then I noticed that every person in the coffee shop had their eyes on me.
"Um, sorry?" I nervously chuckled then went to the back to make another coffee.
Thirty minutes later, Benedict walked in with his head down. Apparently the whole world knew about his nomination and was chasing him.
I made his coffee so he could get in and out as soon as possible, and I wrote "Congratulations x" on the cup.
When he got up to the cash register, he smiled. "I'll have the usual."
"£3 please."
He handed me the money and I handed him the drink.
"Good luck out there. You're going to need it."

Later that night, Benedict and I sat on my couch, talking. The fireplace was on and it was quiet, except for the distant sound of cars outside.
"So you've been nominated for an Oscar? That's amazing."
He nodded and bit his lip, "Yeah. It is. Have you seen the movie?"
I shook my head no, sighing, "I've been too busy. I really want to though."
"Maybe we can see it together. I've actually got a copy of it at my flat. We don't have to go out to see it."
I smiled and nodded, "That would be perfect."
We smiled at each other for a while, and then he coughed. "I've been thinking a lot lately, and I'm wondering..."
"Yes?" I asked.
"Would you be my girlfriend?"
He looked up at me, his eyes reflecting the fire. I bit my lip and nodded, "Yes! Yes, I will!"
He leaned in and kissed me, then pulled away. "Good. Then I can ask you this, too... Will you be my date to the Oscars?"
My jaw dropped, and I tried to find something to say, but I couldn't.
"Ana?"
I looked at him then looked down. "I can't. I'm sorry. I have to work..."
"You could take a few days off... Go with me to LA. It'll be fun."
I shook my head, closing my eyes. "I really can't."
"Is there some other reason besides work as to why you don't want to go?" He questioned, taking my hand.
I whispered, "Yes..."
He took my face in his hand, lifting it so our eyes met. "Tell me..."
"I'm a coffee shop worker. You're the hottest actor right now. That doesn't mix very well in the media and the public's eyes."
"So? I don't care what they think."
"I'm just not ready to go public yet with our relationship. I need to make sure things are settled and going well before we do that. I'm almost at my goal to go back to Uni, and that'll just mess everything up."
Benedict simply nodded, looking me in the eyes. "I completely understand. And I agree. We'll wait to tell everyone until the timing is right."
"It'll be our own little secret," I laughed, cuddling up to Benedict.
"Indeed it will be."
