Benedict and I took forever to finish the pizza, but eventually we made it to his flat. Karon was outside waiting for us with a design team and Benedict let everyone in.
"Ana, you go with Sam and Mary to the spare bedroom. They've just finished set up the trunks of designer dresses for you to choose from." Karon said, smiling at me.
I nodded and kissed Benedict's cheek, following the stylists into the spare room. They showed me to the trunks and my jaw dropped in amazement. "Wow, those are beautiful."
They agreed with me and started pulling out what they thought I would look hot in.
I tried on a navy blue Ralph Lauren gown, and I hated it. The sleeves made it look like I had man arms and the waist was stiff, making me extremely uncomfortable.
I tried on a silver Calvin Klein gown and I hated that one even more. Everything about it was wrong.
All of these dresses were wrong. They weren't me. They were too fancy, too sparkly, too tight... I needed something simple.
Finally, after an hour of searching through the trunks, I found a simple black Gucci gown and I crossed my fingers in the hopes that it would fit.
I tried it on, smiling wide when I saw myself in the mirror. The dress was flowing at the bottom, and the waist was pinched in so it gave me figure. The sleeves were perfect; They came down to my elbows.
I loved this dress and I instantly knew it was the one. I turned to Sam and Mary, nodding. "This is it. I want this one."
Sam came over, looking at it. "Finally... And it looks perfect on you. Darling, let me do your hair and makeup and then you can go show your handsome boyfriend your new gown."
We all laughed and I sat down at a chair, looking in the mirror. Mary did my makeup while Sam did my hair.
I watched as she cleared every blemish on my face, adding different shades of brown for my eye shadow.
Sam tugged at the knots in my hair, smoothing it out and straightening it. He pulled it up into a fancy bun, making it look beautiful.
We finished the look with sparkling jewelry. Because the dress was so simple, I was able to wear a fancy diamond necklace and earrings. They were simple as well, but also elegant.
I checked the mirror one last time then walked out to the living room. Benedict was in a suit, sitting on the couch and reading a book.
"Finally, I was afraid you'd had a heart attack from seeing-" Benedict turned his head, looking at me and freezing. He slowly stood up, walking over to me. "-how beautiful you look. Wow."
His eyes travelled down my body and I blushed, gently biting my lip. "Do you like it? Is it too mundane?"
"No, it's perfect. I love it." He smiled and kissed my cheek, then showed me his bowtie and his suit. "Spencer Hart. The usual."
I chuckled, replying, "You look hot."
"Thank you, I think. So do you."
We talked for a few minutes, and then Sam and Mary took a couple pictures of us.
"You two look perfect," Mary beamed. "Surely you'll catch some attention on the red carpet."
I looked up at Benedict then looked down. Catch attention. That's the last thing I wanted to do.
"Uh, could I please take this off now?" I said quietly, glancing at Sam and Mary.
They nodded and I went into to the spare room, changing back into my original clothes. I laid the dress down on the bed, along with the jewelry and shoes.
When I walked back out, everyone was sitting on the couches, sharing drinks. "Ana, would you like to join us?" Benedict asked, smiling at me.
I shook my head lightly, grabbing my coat. "No, I was going to call it an early night. But thanks for the offer."
Benedict's eyes saddened and he nodded, excusing himself from everyone. He walked me to the door, following me outside. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine. I'm just a bit tired, that's all. And I've got work tomorrow so I should really be heading home." I smiled small, kissing his cheek.
"When can I call you?" He said softly.
"Anytime after four. I should be home by then. Actually, I'll call you. Goodnight Ben."
"Goodnight Ana..." He watched me walk down the hallway, and then he went back inside his flat.
I sighed and got a cab back to my small flat, curling up in bed to sleep as soon as I walked in.
If I had even tried to explain to Benedict why I left, he wouldn't have understood. None of them would've.
