As soon as other people started walking into the park, I quickly got up and left, worrying that someone might recognize me or that someone might have seen everything that had happened.
I ran back to Benedict's house and found Megan sitting in the kitchen by herself, sipping her morning tea.
"Ana, did you go for a morning jog? And where's Benedict?"
I was out of breath and trying to choke back my tears because I didn't want Megan to see me lose my shit.
"I... Have no idea... Where he is..." I sat down and took a few deep breathes then poured myself a cup of tea.
As I blew on the steamy liquid, I felt the tears streaming down my face once again, and I just let it all out.
"Woah there, Ana, what the hell is wrong?" She stood up and walked around the table, grabbing ahold of my arms and pulling me into an embrace.
Smashing my face against her shoulder, I cried, "Benedict proposed... But I said no. He wouldn't let me explain, and now I have no idea where he went or what he's doing."
"You said no? But I thought you were going to say yes..."
"I thought about it more, and I decided that I wanted to wait. We were moving too fast, and we need to slow down. But now he might not even want to keep moving with me."
"Shhhh... Don't you dare say that because you know it isn't true. He loves you, and he'll want to still be with you. He'll agree to anything you say, and trust me, he'll wait for you."
I looked at Megan and just continued to cry, and eventually, she had to help me over to the couch because I was shaking too much.
"I want to make sure he's okay... He just took off from the park..."
"Ana, he's fine. He'll come back here within the next couple hours, and then you'll have the chance to talk. Please stop worrying. He's a grown man."
"He's a heartbroken grown man. There's no telling what he'll do."
I curled up and pressed my face to my knees, sighing deeply. I just wanted to explain everything to Benedict.
"And I hate to tell you this Ana, but my train back to Uni leaves in two hours."
"You've got to be kidding me..."
"No, I'm sorry. I wish I could stay longer and comfort you, but I really have to get back. I have classes starting again tomorrow."
I glanced at her and then tucked my face back into my legs. "At least hug me goodbye before you go back, jerk."
She laughed and nodded. "I will, I will. Don't worry... Bitch"
I smiled a tiny bit and then listened as she left the room to go pack her things.

After Megan had left, I sat in silence by myself, still curled up on the couch.
I jumped when I heard the door swing open, but when I turned around, it was only Benedict. He then slammed the door and walked into the kitchen.
"Benedict?" I slowly got up and walked into the kitchen, finding him staring out the back window into his garden.
"We need to talk Benedict... Please. You didn't let me explain back at the park."
"I don't want to talk right now. Maybe later," He grumbled, pushing past me and storming off to his room.
I let out a silent sigh and then leaned against the counter, rubbing my arms for warmth because the room felt as though it had suddenly gone cold.
The house was quiet and I wanted to go to him, but I knew that he really didn't want to see me right now. I just needed to give him space and then, hopefully, he would let me explain and things would go back to normal.
I made myself some tea and made a bit extra to leave in the kettle in case Benedict ended up wanting some.
When I finished drinking it and had texted Megan that Benedict had come back but I hadn't yet talked to him, I went to the guest room to shower. My face was salty from all of my tears.
I stepped into the steamy shower and just stood there under the water forever. It felt so nice, and I was relaxed for the first time that day.
I didn't get out of the shower until the water turned cold, and by then, I had long since turned into a prune.
For the rest of the day, I stayed in the guest room that Megan had kindly cleaned before she left. I read a bit, I napped, and I cried some more.
Benedict didn't come to see me, and I didn't go to see him. If he wanted a bit more time to think, then fine, I'd give it to him. I was capable of waiting.
