CH 15
PRESENT
I sighed in relief as my cast was cut off. Two weeks I'd been awake here and already my bones were healed. My bruises were gone too and all I was left with was a few new scars, which I didn't mind. I moved my arm and my ankle around, feeling the stiffness in them.
"Well? How's it feeling?" Dr Graves asked me.
"A bit tender, but much better," I said with a smile. I supposed a thanks was due for Ello. I really did heal fast around them... I quickly took that mental thanks right back as I remembered all the times they would bonk my injuries and hurt me. The little shit.
"Good, good. I wouldn't put too much stress on them but you should be good to walk around freely and use your arm as you please. It seems we left them in the casts for a bit longer than necessary but all the same, they're looking very good," He said happily.
"It's not like I do anything that would stress them out anyway," I said with a sigh.
"Actually," Dr Graves started, making me lift my head from looking at my arm, and instead focus on him. "I received word from higher up that they would like to meet you," Graves told me now.
"Took them two weeks to say hello?" I said with a deadpan expression.
"We monitored your behaviour to see if you were at all a threat, I do hope you understand," Dr Graves explained.
This made me think back to my little tiff with Ty, but nothing had really happened, and he likely didn't report it. Slowly, I nodded.
"Well, you've been on such good behaviour, they will see you now, but Ello is not to come with you. They are starting to trust, but not enough to put themselves in immediate danger,"
I pursed my lips, thinking a bit. "Just who are these... Higher up 'they' you speak of?"
"The four people in charge,"
"Doesn't Canada have a prime minister?" I asked confused.
"It used to in the old world, now instead we have four heads. The head of health and science, the head of public and wellbeing, the head of trade and relations, and the head of the military. I would happen to work directly under the head of health and science. In fact, if she dies I am due to take over in her place," Dr Graves explained. "America still has A president. I suppose if there was a certain individual you had to say has the most power, it would be the head of public and wellbeing. All important matters have to be approved by him to ensure they are what is best for the people, the public,"
"I see... So I will be meeting them, then?" I asked now.
"Yes indeed. Ty will be bringing you there," He said now.
I inwardly sighed but nodded nonetheless.
"I do hope you take it easy on those limbs of yours," He said with a smile as I stood up and put on the shoe I was offered. It was odd to finally wear two shoes again.
"I don't plan on going crazy," I assured him, walking to the door where Ty was already taking out his card to scan.
The door beeped and hissed softly, opening for us as we stepped out into the hallway. Ello wasn't with me, and I could already imagine the scolding I was going to get when they found out I hadn't come back to my room immediately. It was a constant struggle with them. I was growing tired of it, but not as tired as I thought I would be. I wonder if the link kept me from hating them or something, or if I genuinely was patient with them.
