CH 11
PRESENT
After Ty took me down the long winding hallways and through an uncomfortable elevator ride, we made it to the dormitory area that was located within the same building. This seemed like a huge place, and when I asked Ty how big it was he just shrugged and told me 'big'. He was a bit annoying despite being so quiet.
Supposedly we were in a city- one of the few that were left and one of the types that had large walls surrounding it with a giant state of the art dome on top to protect its citizens from raizon and radiation flare-ups. I hadn't seen any windows yet in my time here so when I walked into my room to see that the far end had a large window that spanned floor to ceiling it made me curious. Would this place look like what little I had seen of the city I escaped from?
It did- but only a little bit. Buildings were shaped differently and why there were a lot of lights, there certainly was a lot less. It seemed... less fancy. Ty then approached by my side and looked out at the endless expanse. We were higher up than most buildings and I didn't dare to look directly below me.
"Canada- or what's left of it. We're in the capital... Welcome to Tario," He said now. "What used to be Toronto in the old world,"
"Tario," I repeated, glancing at Ty who had finally said something without being prompted. "Are you from here?"
He turned and started walking to the door. My eyes followed him but I stayed put at the window. "Yes and no," He said as he set one of each of my pills on the counter. "Take these now, food will be brought to you shortly. There's a com in the wall that will contact me. You don't have authorization to leave your room yet so call me if you need anything. You can find out the rest of your room for yourself,"
"Why can't I leave?" I found myself asking.
Ty didn't even look at me as he finished walking to the door. "Orders from above," he said but I was sure he knew the real reason. I found myself crossing my arms as he left without a goodbye. Was everyone here strange? Ello was enthusiastic and clingy, Ty was to the point and mostly silent, Dr Graves was chatty and a bit too friendly... Valor wasn't very nice either... I hadn't met anyone else this entire time so I wondered... just what was I to these people. A new lab rat most likely but something else felt amiss. I didn't like the feeling.
When Ty left I stared out the window until it started to make me anxious. I then Drew the blinds and turned on a light, but the light was quickly irritating so I turned it off and settled for walking around in the dark like a lunatic. Dr Graves wasn't lying when he said there was a TV in here. But I didn't know how to use it so I continued to look around and take in the room.
There was a large bed against the wall in the centre, across from it there was a TV on a dresser and a table in the corner of the room. Built into the wall there was some sort of computer but I didn't know how to use those either. In the corner of the room, there was a bathroom- a rather nice one at that. And near the door, there was almost a kitchen sort of area but there was just a minifridge, a microwave, and some cabinets and counters. It looked kind of like some of the hotels I had scavenged with the group.
The group... I wondered still If they were alive or not. I didn't find their bodies but why would they just leave me behind? Perhaps Gen and Tiff would... but Klein? Klein had been begging me to stay before that. If anyone would have made sure I go along, it would have been Klein. So why... did I wake up alone? I couldn't understand... I needed to find them and ask.
Bored out of my mind and unable to read because I didn't wish to turn the lights on, I moved to the TV. It was dark outside indicating that it was nighttime but I wasn't tired at all. Ty said that I would eat soon so it couldn't have been that late... I then remembered what he said about my medicine. I looked over at the counter at the untouched pills. Wasn't it a bit irresponsible of him to trust me to take them on my own?
