CH 9

PRESENT

Dr Graves pricked me with a needle, drawing blood for the third time in a row. I felt faint but let him do it. I didn't want any more trouble than I was already in. The situation was uncomfortable enough as it was... Memories of the first 14 years of my life were swimming around my head now.

"There, that's the last blood sample I'll be taking today," He said with a smile, capping the tube and putting it on a metal tray.

"Couldn't you have taken my blood why I was passed out?"

"Oh I already did, I just needed more. There are so many tests I have to run- it's all so exciting. Do you mind if I take a saliva sample? Oh, a urine and stool sample would also be interesting,"

I wrinkled my nose. "That's disgusting,"

"Nothing you haven't had to do before," He said with a shrug.

"The answer's no. Can't you just be happy I gave you so much blood?" I complained.

Dr Graves sighed. "Alright, I won't make you do it today, but sometime soon I'll be requesting it. Alright?" I made a face but he continued to talk. "Now, you haven't eaten in a few days... you were out for quite a while so I should have you eat when we're done,"

"Wait I was out for how long?" I asked, shocked.

"A good four days," he hummed aloud. "You had several broken bones and those raizon dogs that attacked you had high concentrations of raizon in their saliva. We threw away your tattered clothes too- we'll be giving you better, cleaner ones," He explained to me as he walked over and started rummaging around in a cabinet. "Your recovery is very fast though. Your broken bones seem to be healing at incredible rates and the stitches we gave you for the dog bites and that gash on your shoulder and head were pulled out yesterday. Do be careful though, there's still a chance they might open given enough trama. We didn't think you'd wake up for another day at least. Had you on anaesthetics because we were afraid you'd wake up in a lot of pain- seems we were wrong though,"

"I see..." I said with a frown. So I'd been out for a long time then...

"You can thank Ello for the fast recovery. You really do appear to be linked," Dr Graves said as he turned back to me with a flashlight and a popsicle stick.

"About Ello... they keep speaking as though they know me... but I've never met them before..."

The doctor approached me and leaned down. "Open your mouth and say awe," he instructed me and I did as he said. He put the stick on my tongue and flashed the flashlight in my throat. "Ello seemed to be waiting for you. Kept insisting for these past five years that you left them behind. Maybe you suffered a traumatic experience that made you forget," he suggested, removing the popsicle stick from my mouth and tossing it in the trash.

"Maybe..." it didn't seem so likely.

Dr Graves held up his finger. "Follow my finger please," he told me and I obeyed, following it as he flashed the light in my eyes. I flinched away and his brows rose. "You're light-sensitive... Your pupils expand too. Eyes are very pretty. You know when I heard about your eyes being that crazy light blue colour I got excited. Adams always have this inhuman blue to their eyes, it's very pretty,"

I blinked, rubbing my eyes. "Ello has red eyes... but sometimes they're the same colour as mine..."

"Well, Eves take on the eye colour of their Adams as soon as they link or relink. Ten or so minutes away from their Adams and it's back to their regular colour. According to Dr Felina artificial Eves don't have red eyes like Ello. They have whatever eye colour their human genes decided to end up with,"
