It had been a month since your death. Everyone in the corps had been affected by it. Your dear friends that you once laughed with would hang their heads low in silence, too upset to laugh or even speak. The squad that you lead had been assigned to another, though secretly, they wished they were still on yours.

You best friend, Hanji, would no longer shout in joy or scream when she found something interesting. It's not like she made any discoveries. She was too upset to even work.

The person that was affected most, however, was your dear boyfriend. You'd promised him that you'd make it back from the expedition. Neither of you expected that you wouldn't make it back that night.

He spent the time blaming himself for not being able to protect you. He stayed in your bedroom, trying the hang on to the little scent left of you. At nights, those near him could hear him wracking with sobs into your pillow. No work was done in this time.

He struggled to sleep, bags forming under his tired eyes.

He struggled to eat, losing more weight by day.

He struggled to stay clean, sinking into a depression so low it cut into his cleaning habits.

All that remained now of Humanity's Strongest Soldier was a tired, filthy, unhealthy soldier. Nearly every feature about him had changed.

His once shiny, gray eyes had grown dim of sorrow. His once clean-kept, shiny hair had become filthy and matted. His once defined face began sinking. His once porcelain skin was now covered in dried tears.

No loss had hurt quite like this.

The first week was the absolute worst. He remembers hearing the grim news so clearly

He was waiting in his office for Y/N to greet him after the mission. An hour or two had passed before he began to get worried. Another half hour passed before a knock sounded on his wooden door.

Assuming it was Y/N, he quickly opened the door. He didn't expect to be met by Hanji and your squad.

His determined face quickly changed to confusion as he was handed a folded, green coat. Looking down at the cost then back up, he was shocked to see Hanji, of all people, crying.

"I'm sorry....her loss was not in vain. She was able to save two squads."

He stared in shock, not bothering to hide his emotions. Thus began the stages of grief.

Denial.

"You're joking. Hanji, this isn't funny. Where is she? She isn't gone, she promised!"

By now, your squad had left, just leaving Hanji and Levi.

"I'm so sorry"

Anger

"No!" He slammed his hand over the wall. "She isn't dead! She doesn't make those mistakes! She's not gone! You.. you're lying!"

"Levi, please..."

"Stop! That's enough! Get out of my sight before I cremate your and spread your ashes over a field of manure!"

Hanji flinched, but still didn't move.

Bargaining

"She's not dead. She's strong...what if she is still out there! Hanji, we have to go back!" He attempted to run out before he was stopped by Hanji.

"What are you doing? Let go of me! She is still out there, I know it"

"Levi...please...we all saw it. You have to let it go"
