There used to be a time where Travis and you were attached at the hip. You played hockey together, you watched movies together, grabbed food together. You did everything together. Until you didn't. Until he got the opportunity to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. You were so proud of him, it was everything he ever wanted. You were so happy for him, and kept supporting him. You understood that this meant that he got busier and had less time for you. You hated it, but you took every single minute he gave you. You kept playing hockey, trying your best and hoping that one day you could play for a team like Travis did.
That day came sooner than you thought. While you always hoped to play for the Flyers, you were over the moon to hear that the Boston Bruins wanted you to play for them. The first thing you did after you heard the news was calling Travis. Even after all this time he was the first person that crossed your mind, the first person you wanted to tell. Your phone call to Travis went straight to voicemail. With a groan you threw your phone on the couch and went into the kitchen to make dinner.
It was almost 11:30pm when your phone rang. You were already getting ready to go to bed. Sprinting into the living room to grab your phone, which was still where you left it earlier. Looking at the caller ID you saw it was Travis, so you picked up. "Hey, Travis! I need to tell you something," you almost screamed into his ear, you were so happy you could finally tell Travis the good news. "Can you make it quick? I'm kind of in the middle of something, y/n." You heard the music on the background, which probably meant he was at some kind of party. "Uhm, yeah sure. The Bruins want me to play for them, I'm going to Boston." It was quiet for a moment on the other side of the line. You looked at your phone, wondering if maybe he hung up on you. That wasn't the case. "That's great, y/n. Congratulations." He didn't sound really enthusiastic, which made your mood plummet. Before you could say anything Travis spoke again. "I need to go, y/n, okay? I'll call you later." Immediately after that he hung up. You stared at the phone in disbelieve. Did that really just happen? You stumbled towards your bed, your mind still full of questions.
Your move to Boston went without any problems. Your parents helped you move into your new apartment. You hadn't tried to contact Travis. You knew he wasn't in Philadelphia when you moved, and he hadn't contacted you after that night when you told him the good news. So you let it go, you wouldn't make the first move this time. It was weird doing something big, like moving to another city, without your best friend by your side. On the bright side, the Bruins welcomed you with open arms. You felt great there, the atmosphere felt great and you couldn't wait to see and experience more.
Hockey in Boston came with such a tight schedule. All your days were full of things involving hockey. You didn't mind, the opposite actually, you looked forward to it. You dived head first into your new life. You surprised everyone with your hard work. You had an amazing mind set and it paid off. Way earlier than expected you were able to make your NHL debut. Your hockey career took off way faster after that. You gave yourself 100% to your career and nothing else mattered anymore. You forgot your previous life in Philly, it almost felt like a lifetime ago. You didn't bother to look at social media anymore, you didn't bother to look at Travis's texts, his stats or anything else. It didn't matter anymore. Travis only existed in the back of your mind, movie nights forgotten. Even the early morning runs, where Travis always complained and you always laughed at him, forgotten.
