The next week was a mirage of arguments and snide comments for the Hufflepuffs. Melody's temper had only gotten worse and it seems as though everybody around her was feeling the weight of her bad mood. Truthfully Melody didn't know why she was in such a loathsome mood and so quick to snap, she'd always been a pleasant girl and not to perpetuate the whole nice and sweet Hufflepuff stereotype, but she really was not acting like a Hufflepuff.

She could be found staking the halls, scribbling Quidditch plays in her notebook and hiding out in the library. She had spent far too long thinking about Oliver Wood, so she made a deal with herself, she was only allowed to think of him as a captain, a rival who she needed to beat. So what if when she was inebriated she had wanted nothing more than too snog his face off and ended up cuddling with him all night. That was just a momentary blip on her plan too with the Quidditch cup. At one point she even tried to convince herself that her brief thing with Wood was to throw him off his game, this, however, was not the most convincing lie.

She had been avoiding him like dragon pox, anytime she'd glimpsed sight of the Scottish lad she'd practically run for the hills, his big stature and identifiable accent had worked in her favour. He'd almost managed to corner her at one point but she slipped into a crowd of third years excitedly babbling about the upcoming Hogsmeade trip.

She and Alex had been at each other's throats, the two got on like a house on fire most of the time but when they fought, they fought. The pair were practically an old married couple at this point, the two had been snapping at each other all week, to be completely frank Melody had been snapping at everyone which was maybe the reason she found herself alone again her legs dangling over the astronomy tower and she fervently scribbled down Quidditch ideas for her upcoming match.

'Well, well, well, if it isn't my second favourite Fawley,' a voice from behind her spoke with a soft chuckle.

'George?' she questioned, admittedly she'd never fully gotten the hang of telling them apart.

'Correct princess, mind if I join you?' he asked sitting down without waiting for an answer.

She chuckled and looked at him questioningly, 'I can't deal with any more of Fred and Angelina's flirting,' he answered.

'Oh,' the girl nodded, 'I thought something was going on there.'

'I just wish they'd bloody get together already; they flirt all the time but neither of them have got the balls to just get together,' he whined, 'then again I don't need to tell you about that do I?' he sent a playful wink her way which did not meet a warm reception.

'Funny,' she muttered her attention back onto her notebook,

'What's got you so sour, princess?' he inquired,

'Dunno,' she admitted truthfully, 'ever feel like you haven't got a freaking clue what's going on with your life and no idea how to control it.'

'Control is overrated,'

'I like control,'

'I can tell.'

'Oi,' Melody laughed at him, it felt good to smile she had been rather sulky recently, 'what's that meant to mean you cheeky git,'

'Are you telling me in all of your sixteen years of life, no one has ever told you that you're a control freak?' he laughed at her, 'because if so, Melody Fawley do I have some news for you.' The pair giggled at each other George could practically see the tension melting away from her.

'Melody?'

'Yeah,'

'If I say something can you promise not to get all moody and scary with me? He questioned her, the girl didn't reply merely inclined her head waiting for him to continue. 'Well it's just that there is clearly something happening between you and Oliver, I know its none of my business but you could do a lot worse than him. You know what Melody,' he said with a sigh, 'I think that if you two would just sit down and talk it out you'd find it's not as complicated as you think.'

Melody didn't reply, she just sat there for a while mulling over what he had just said to her. 'You know what George,' she finally broke the silence, 'for a trouble-making prankster you're very wise.'

He laughed at her, 'never let it be said that there isn't a method to my madness.'

With a helping hand from George Melody pulled herself off her ledge and climbed down the staircase talking about tactics to use against the Slytherins her mind a lot clearer. Melody couldn't help but feel as if she was back to herself again, she hugged George before parting there separate ways.

'Look at that the Hufflepuffs back,' he whispered ruffling her hair as she wrapped her arms around his torso.

She had a lot of apologies to do and the best place to start was going to be the Hufflepuff Common Room, so that's where she was headed a spring in her step when Oliver went up to George with Fred in tow.

'Gonna need a quick explanation, Georgie,' Fred prompted upon seeing Oliver's less than pleased expression.

'Righto Freddie, let's just say Ollie, you can call me cupid from now on. I think Melody will be having a chat with you at some point.'

'Nice one,' Fred beamed slapping him on the back as the trio made their way to their common room.

'Oh Olivia,' Melody started upon seeing her friend sprawled out on a sofa, 'can we chat?'

'Are you going to apologise for being a cow for the last ten days?' she asked, 'yes I've been counting,' she added on quickly.

'I mean yeah, I was planning on it,' she smiled shyly.

'Well, then there's no need,' she smiled at her standing her and pulling her into a hug. Melody laughed and squeezed her back,

'I'm sorry,'

'I know,'

'I love you,'

'I know.'

Eventually, the two pulled away both of their eyes brimming with tears.

'It's not going to be that easy with me,' a voice from the floor said, Alex popped his head up from where he had been laid on the ground.

'Alex,' she started but fell short not really knowing what to say,

'Melody.'

'Alex,'

'You've covered that much,' he smirked at her.

'I'm sorry,'

'For...' he prompted.

'For being a complete arse to you,'

'and'

'and not listening to your advice,'

'and' he prompted yet again his harsh glare was softening.

'and' she faltered, 'um well everything I guess.'

'Oh, just accept her apology for Merlin's sake,' Olivia scolded.

'I'm sorry for being an arse to you as well Melody,' Alex laughed walking over to her and pulling her into a bone-crushing hug making both of them laugh.

Melody couldn't help but feel a weight lift off her shoulders, she just needed to apologise to Cedric, then get 'the talk' with Oliver out of the way and everything would be alright.

'Ahem,' Cedric cleared his throat, 'I believe you're forgetting someone,'

'As if I could ever forget you Ceddie,' she smiled.

'All that scribbling in your notebook better win us the game on Saturday,' she laughed softly at him, 'if we win no argument if we lose the fights back on.' He decided.

Melody laughed and shook his hand in agreement, it felt good to be back with her best friends again. Everything was going to be okay.
