Luckily, by morning, Hange seems to have snapped out of whatever had made them feel awkward last night. "(Y/N), wake up, aren't you hungry?"
Groaning quietly, you show your middle finger to the Section Commander currently sitting upright and leaning over you to wake you up. "Go away and let me sleep."
"No chance in hell, get your lazy ass out of bed," they say, listening as you grumble 'no' again before just giving up. At least, that's what you thought, ready to fall back to sleep before a pair of strong arms lift you up off the mattress, dropping you onto your feet. Your blanket stays wrapped around you, as do Hange's arms, holding you up when you stumble. "Steady there."
Now you're wide awake, and a little bit pissed off. "Why'd you do that?! Today's my free day, let me sleep!" You try to swat the other, but your hands are still in your blanket, so you fail miserably, somehow becoming more tangled in the soft fabric.
Hange just laughs at your feeble attempt to fight back, moving away once you're stable. "For such a talented soldier, you're pretty bad at fighting off intruders in the morning. Besides, you have to tell your squad the good news today! And you'll have to change your timetable for the future now you have a different rank, so actually today isn't a free day. In fact, you'll likely be very busy."
"Don't intrude then," you groan, flinging your blanket onto your bed grumpily before stalking into the bathroom. "I hadn't thought of that. Ughhh..."
Hange hands you your uniform around the door when you ask for it after getting yourself otherwise ready, thankfully not being a pervert, and you sigh as you finish fixing your (H/L) (H/C) hair. Because of your sleepover, you didn't get a chance to work out how best to approach your squad and deliver the promotion news. "Just wing it." You mutter to your reflection.
She seems happier today than the last time you'd studied her image in the mirror. Still tired and hands still trembling minutely, but healthier looking, a shine in her (E/C) eyes that hadn't been there last time. A smile comes easier to you, though it doesn't do anything to ease the anxiety about those three 'big problems' you'd identified last night.
"Right, breakfast."
❀❀❀
You leave Hange with their squad when you see your own lining up to get their food, rushing over and saying good morning to them all. The last time you'd seen them had been yesterday morning when you'd given Alice the go ahead to give the team a day off whilst you worked on your report (they'd all been more hungover than you as well, so they'd thanked you very quickly and sincerely for it), but they all look a lot happier themselves today.
"Why is Section Commander Hange staring at us?" Pyotr asks you as you all sit at your table, nodding his head in their direction. All four of you beside him turn to look, and he sighs, adding on to that- "Don't be obvious or anything."
They wave at you before giving you a thumbs up, not bothered by having five pairs of eyes on them, and you wave back before turning back to your team- uh squad. "I have some news."
Alice raises an eyebrow, looking between you both. "You're banging the Section Commander?"
It takes a while for you to process her words but you wish you'd stayed oblivious to them. "No!" You shout, gaining a few looks from around the mess hall at your outburst, making you flush warm. "No, not at all. Not news like that. Walls, Alice, Really?"
She just chuckles darkly, pointing her butter knife at you accusingly. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
Finnegan tells her off, but your face is so warm there's no way they haven't noticed, and you even stutter on your next words. "Sh-shut up."
