Chapter Four.

"Miles, can we do our school work together now?" Flora's mouth drops as she turns to her brother. Miles chuckles and strums his guitar once.

"No, silly. We would distract each other too much." He says, continuing to strum. Flora slowly pouts, and stands up from Miles' bed. She walks up to his wall and places her hand on a photograph of the two of them.

"You need a picture of (Y/N) up here!" She smiles her semi-toothless smile.

"Why would I need that, Flora?" He asks, distracted, and tuning his guitar.

"Because she's going to be family now." The young girl innocently states. Miles freezes and becomes tense. He then clenches his jaw.

"What? She's not family. You're my family, Flora. We have Mrs Grose as well but no. You are my only family. Be careful who you trust immediately. We barely know her." Miles' expression becomes cold.

"She's nice. I like her and you should too. You don't have any friends, Miles."

"I do."

"That boy in your class wasn't a friend. You hurt him."

"Let's not talk about that, sweetie-" He starts before briskly turning to the entrance of his room. His door creaks open to reveal (Y/N) standing meekly. Flora grins and a stillness creeps over the dark room. After a pause, (Y/N) speaks.

"Am I interrupting something?"

"No. Do you want to come in?" Miles sneers.

"Yes, yes, yes!" Flora shouts running toward (Y/N) and pulling her in. The door closes behind the two of them and a gust of crisp air flows into circulation. The teen girl shivers and Miles takes note of it. Flora and (Y/N) sit on the end of Miles' bed and begin having a lighthearted conversation. The moody boy stands up, walks to his chair, and sits down with a huff.

"Flora, darling, come here! This is not time for playing with your brother. Time for your studies." Mrs Grose's voice echoes through the lengthy hallway.

"Coming. Bye Miles! Bye (Y/N)!" Flora speaks while running out of the room. (Y/N) starts to say goodbye but the young girl is already far away.

Miles sits just across the room from (Y/N) but he seems worlds away. (Y/N) chuckles as she thinks about her conversation with Flora. The young girl had a way of making everyone around her feel accepted and warm.

"What? Are you laughing at me now?" Miles turns his head toward the window and mutters something to himself.

"What? No- No. I was just thinking about something." She stutters.

"Thinking about your boyfriend?"

"I don't- I don't have a boyfriend. Miles-" She sighs.

"Aren't we friends? I know we just met but last night you said you wanted to be. Friends, that is. If not, that's fine but just let me know so I can stop tiptoeing around you and your emotions." (Y/N) nervously cracks her knuckle. Miles' eyes widen and his lip quivers. His hand shoots up to his mouth and he slyly covers it.

"Yes, (Y/N). I want to be friends. I'm just not used to this whole thing." He admits, talking into his hand and rubbing his face, slightly.

"What whole thing... friends?" Her voice peaks.

"Yea." The room becomes silent. (Y/N) let's her eyes drift onto the posters on his walls. Miles stands and turns towards his washroom. He doesn't close the door. Instead, he confidently undoes his belt, lets his pants fall to his ankles, and starts doing his business. (Y/N) takes her eyes off of the posters on the wall and turns to where the noise is coming from.

"What the hell, Miles?" Her shocked expression grows on her face.

"What, (Y/N)?" Miles asks, still peeing but now annoyed. (Y/N) stands up and walks to the washroom, eyes closed and stumbling.

"Close the door when you go to the washroom in front of your friends." She says, scrunching her nose and smirking, sarcastically.

"Right. Got it." (Y/N) hears through the now closed door and she smiles a genuine smile.
