'Harry's POV'
Recently I acquired some information. Some of it was really good, the rest was seemingly terrible. Maybe it would be a little better if Melony was back and running this place, but it's only been a week since she's been staying with Leslie and Alex. She's been pitching fits and demanding to come back, but none of us will even consider it as an option.
Within the past few days, I've raised in ranks. I've displayed some sort of authority that everyone, even LaFroye, respected. It felt nice actually. There were quite a few people that were upset with my standings, and my pay rate, but I observed as LaFroye stuck them back in their places. This is some of the good news.
The other good news I received was that Robin was actually getting better. His body rebuilding itself instead of deteriorating. Upon hearing this news, LaFroye had stated that I could go see my family for awhile, if I wanted to that is. Of course I took his offer, but that was when I gathered some bad news.
"You see, Harry," LaFroye began with his hands folded across his stomach from behind his desk. "I run a business, a very illegal and dangerous business, but it's a business nonetheless."
I had no idea where he was going with this conversation, and my nerves were starting to act up. My knee started bouncing up and down as I waited for him to continue.
"Once every five or six months, I send a few skilled people to, you know, cleanse a bank of its extra cash." He gives me a calm smile, his eyes holding no trace of any lies.
"Or all of their money." He adds after a beat of silence. "We like to keep the banks on their toes."
"Um, Mr. LaFroye-"
"No mister, Harry."
"LaFroye, that has to be such a huge crime."
"It is, but it's part of this life that you so willingly chose." He gives me a sympathetic look before continuing. "You aren't like everyone else here. You care too much about people and their rules. Loosen up a little, amico."
"Amico?"
"It means friend in Italian."
"I knew you weren't completely American." I clap my hands together in accomplishment as a grin spreads across my face. LaFroye laughs at me and shakes his head.
"I want you and Zayn to work up a plan to rob a bank." He blatantly concludes. "You have until Wednesday to have it flawless and ready to put into action."
I get up off the comfortable leather chair and briskly leave the room. I debate heading towards Zayn's office, but instead stop outside of Melony's. I grab the key out of my jeans pocket and jam it into the doorknob and spin it around until it unlocks. I flip on the light switch, shut and lock the door before letting out a long and angry groan.
I'd tidied up the mess that was Melony's office, so now it was fairly easy to find things. She'd given me permission to use her office whenever I pleased to once she heard about me being fourth in command, under Zayn. I feel horrible about knocking down everyone else, but they didn't seem to mind. In fact, they loved that they had a little less authority and more room to fuck around. I pulled out my phone and quickly typed up a message.
To Melony:
I need to rob a bank. Help?I don't expect her to text back quickly, knowing that she's at one of her daily therapist sessions. She's only been to five sessions, but there's an obvious weight being lifted from her shoulders, and it's making all of our mutual friends and myself happy to see her happy. She's definitely not losing her edge or her attitude though, as Ivan called her last night and she chewed him into a whole new person.
