VIOLA'S POV
I leave the room with the two way mirror and make sure Lee isn't anywhere to be found, because although he's blind, he can also tell when there's a spot of no Noise floating around. I see Ben sitting in his office typing away at what probably is an "urgent email" to some scientist to help Todd. Ben and Todd have a special relationship, more than a father-son relationship and uncomparable to any other kind of relationship. He's been searching nonstop for the past two months how to save his son. He barely comes out of his office. I knock on the door and go in before he says come in, too anxious to know what this vial is. He doesn't move from his computer, still agressivley typing on the keyboard, fingers in every direction. I place the cylinder on his desk with a clink and only then does he look up.
He looks at the vial, then up at me, then back down at the vial. His eyes are bloodshot, his forehead has frown lines I hadn't noticed before, but then I realize, I look just about the same. We are both almost always frantically looking for an answer as to how to heal Todd. Just before The Sky left after he had "killed" Todd, he said, " It is a wound from a weapon of the Land, The medicine of the Land might save him." But since I thought Todd was already dead I called The Sky a liar, threatened I would kill him with a weapon, and told him to get lost. Point Viola. Now since we can't find The Sky, there isn't a way of finding the cure. So we're winging it. Point Sky.
I snap back into reality and Ben's expression goes soft, "So nice to see you Viola. " He's been using his voice a lot lately ever since the incident. He says using the Noise reminds him of the Spackle, and well, you get the idea. "What have you brought me this evening?" He says, examining the cylinder. I take a deep breathe, and say, "I saw Lee put it in the bag next to Todd's bed, it turned green then went clear again. I scanned it and came up with these weird names. I have no idea what they are so I came to you."
Without hesitation he takes it, and the slip of paper of which I wrote the chemicals on. He looks up with a look of such horror and anger that I flinch and step back. "Ben, what's that stuff Lee put in there? What's he doing to Todd??"
Ben looks at me trying to concentrate, and says, "He's poisoning him."
