After Nya became queen a whirlwind of events took place- including him becoming prince. Most of it was ceremonial stuff but it was exhausting. Luckily they were shown to a room where they could relax before dinner. Though it was hard to relax when Nya’s earlier words were rushing through his mind. He honestly wasn’t sure how he could still think.

"So," Jay started, rubbing the back of his neck, "betrothed, huh?"

Nya raised her arms above her head in a makeshift stretch. "Yes." Hearing no response from her normally talkative fiancé, she raised an eyebrow. "And?"

"Well… you see…I...." He flailed his arms around in an attempt to voice his racing thoughts.

"Betrothed means engaged just so you know."

"I know that betrothed means- did you just say engaged!?!"

A smirk tugged against her lips. "I did."

His mouth dropped open as he was once again at a loss for words.

"And this happened-"

"When that jerk of a queen tried to steal you from me."

Jay just nodded his head, his brain trying to catch up.

"So, she asked if I was betrothed and you said yes," he said, wondering if voicing the events would help him process better.

"It was a proposal."

"I- what!?!" If his brain wasn’t broken before, it definitely was now.

"You heard me." A strangled noise came out of his mouth. Nya rolled her eyes. "You're really gonna make me do it, aren't you?"

"Do what?" Then Jay's eyes nearly bulged out of his sockets as he watched Nya sink to one knee, holding out a not so small box. This was happening. This was actually happening!

"Jay Walker, do you want to marry me or not?"

Before he knew it, tears were streaming down his face. Nya was proposing. Nya was proposing!

"Yes! Yes, yes, a million times yes!"

Yanking her off the ground he pulled her into a hug spinning her around until they fell to the floor, dizzy with laughter. As the world slowed down and looked into her eyes all he could think about was what did he do to deserve such an amazing person as Nya.

"Nya I love you so much." She warmly smiled back, pressing a kiss to his nose.

"I have something for you." She rolled off of him and sat up to give him the box she had earlier.

“Oh, Nya, you didn’t have-”

She shoved the box into his lap. “I did.”

He pecked her cheek. “Thank you.”

“You don’t even know what it is yet.”

“It’s from the love of my life, of course I already love it.”

“Quit being sappy and open the box so I can start being sappy.”

Jay dramatically placed a hand on his chest. "Oh, wrote me a speech? I feel honored." She glared daggers at him. "Okay, okay I'll open it." Once he took the lid off he was met by an actual dagger. Looking up at her in surprise Nya started to explain herself.

“I want to always be there to protect you like how I did today. But I know that won’t be possible all the time. So I want you to have this. Just in case.” She carefully laced their fingers together while he studied the blade.

The handle spiraled between his blue and Nya’s aqua against a black background. If he looked closely, he could see tiny golden hearts. His finger traced up to the hilt where water made of gold encased bolts of lightning. A deep blue sapphire sat where the grip met the hilt. The blade was made of a white gold, but the thing that caught his eye was the words engraved across in gold: For the times I can’t be there to protect you

“Wow,” he breathed. “Nya this is so beautiful.”

“I’m glad you like it.”

“Like it? No, I love it! I love you.” A deep blush spread across her face as Jay unknowingly did his puppy eyes.

“Here, the back’s a little different.” She flipped it over to reveal a ruby instead of a sapphire for the gem. His name was scrawled on the bottom of the blade.
“Thank you Nya,” he told her as he pulled her into a hug. “I really really love it.” Jay felt her smile into the hug.

“You’re welcome.” Pulling back he looked at his amazing yang he was completely smitten for. Well, technically she was his fiancée now.

Suddenly they heard clapping. Turning to the noise Lloyd was standing off to the side with Murt. And popcorn.

“Lloyd?” Nya asked. “Where’d you come from from?”

“And where’d you get that popcorn?” Jay exclaimed, mouth watering.

“Dinner’s ready. Turns out the Munce do have edible food.” After Lloyd shoveled some more popcorn in his mouth he said “By the way, congrats.”  Nya rolled her eyes but had a huge grin on her face while Jay told him thanks.

“After today, I’m starving.” Nya got off the ground and made her way to Lloyd.

“Wait for me!” Jay yelled, scrambling after her. He went to put his dagger away but a glint of gold caught his eye. Above his name, in the smallest writing possible was those three little words he rarely heard her speak. Underneath was a heart and her name.

Jay quickly caught up to Nya, tapped her on the back of the shoulder, then kissed her with everything he had.

“What was that for?” she asked, a bit flustered. He just grinned.

“I love you too.”
